UK on second highest terror alert
Britain's security services have been put on their second highest state of alert amid intelligence of an al-Qaeda attack, the BBC has learned.

The internal "severe general" alert is said to be unconnected to US President Bush's forthcoming UK visit.

It follows warnings about plans by al-Qaeda supporters from North Africa.

The alert means security will be extra tight around potential targets. Sources say no attack is imminent, and there is no intelligence of a specific target.

1. It's BS
It's just to justify keeping the public away from Trafalgar Square next week. It won't work unfortunately, I fear violence is certain, probably police initiated, after all they are being pressured not just by the public and the British establishment, but also the US adminstration, and we've seen what US administration pressure does: it makes the UK launch illegal wars with us! So there will be illegal violence in London too.

7. Bush attracts these terrorist types
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 10:48 PM by jamesinca
I think that is what they are saying. The "terra lert" goes up when he is in the U.S. Name one day that we have had an elevated "terra lert" with him out of the country? The great uniter, not the divider!!

The same is happening in England, he shows up and it will probably attract these people. It is a nice way of saying that Bush is a POS and there are a lot of people out there that would gladly kill him. They hate him for his Christian values and freedom you know.

10. It is to keep protestors in "free speech" zones
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 10:51 PM by homelandpunk
The goddamn criminals told Britain to keep their protestors away from Bunnypants. Word from Britain was that this was not going to happen. They found out simply demanding that the Brits act like american sheep and get rounded up and out of the way of Bush's presence was not going to work. Imagine that. So now, they have this fabrication to coincide with the visit...
UK on second highest terror alert
BUT...
"The internal "severe general" alert is said to be unconnected to US President Bush's forthcoming UK visit."

Now look a this:
"The alert means security will be extra tight around potential targets."
Oh gee, what would that be???

Also:
"The internal alerts are for the security services only, including the police, the army and MI5, and not usually made public."
NOT USUALLY MADE PUBLIC, but the public is the intended audience for this message: stay away from Bush.
Isn't this so fucking obvious?

Goddamn it I am so sick of clear, unmistakable fascist boots in the face of powerless people, the masses. The thugs just use any means available to them now without fear of consequences. I hate Blair so much for this treachery. I hope there is violence in Britain. I goddamn mean it. Something has to turn.

12. They must really think that their people are stupid. What a
flippin' joke! They actually think that people are going to believe the heightened terror alert has nothing to do with Jr. Satan's visit?

25. Old people are in a perpetual state of FEAR
I talked with a few of my late mother's friends recently.
They like the Chimpanzee, they think he will SAVE them from all the terrorists in this country.

They also do not go out after dark anymore--they are generally afraid they will be killed by terrorists.

4. Blame it on al Qaeda because it's so convenient for everyone
It may or may not be true, but isn't it sooo convenient, now that the word is out that bush is most definitely NOT WELCOME in the UK.

Take a hint, bush, and then take a hike.

5. Right. Trying to keep those Brits home from the protests
This is getting to be so boring...same old routine each time a protest is planned. Is Rove loosing his magic?

17. It's not to keep them home, it's meant as an excuse for the ass kicking
Blair has been wanting to give to all the ungrateful Brits who don't love Bush the way he does. They are going to implement amerikkan free speech zones and any who won't comply, are gonna get the heel of the boot, the bone breaking baton, and the tear gas. Blair wants payback on his countrymen, and Rove wants Bush immune to wild protestors. This is the solution: declare HIGH state of terror.
I hope the Brits really fight the black visors, the SS of the Bush -Blair evil axis. I hope there is anarchy, blood and lots of news coverage. I do wish that the black visors do not kill anyone. But equally, I am very much in the hopes the Brits will not stand for being coralled into amerikkkan free speech pens. Thus, I hope for a nice, bloody conflict, and truly wish I were there.

20. It depends on volume.
Edited on Sat Nov-15-03 04:12 AM by LivingInTheBubble
If there is a large volume there will be little police action. Last time I was at a massive protest the police just looked sheepish because they were so massively outnumbered. They only started twatting the protesters when the vast majority had gone and they thought they could get away with it.

I do not appreciate being herded away from "special" people. Prince charles was visiting my town once and I walked past him a couple of metres away (didnt stop to say hi!). I'll be buggered if someone else especially an unelected murderer from another country thinks they are so special that the public shouldn't be allowed anywhere near them.

9. Over here we havn't been subjected
to that constant terrorist alert process that was done over there in order to build the war-like spirit.

I'm guessing that bush* is ramping this one up on purpose, to leave a subliminal message with the british people, "You are at war. The world is a very dangerous place". The larger his 'exclusion zone' the bigger the propaganda effect. u.s. security have 'shoot on sight policy' etc, etc.

Of course one could don the tin-foil hat here and suggest that having gone in for all this totally over-theatrical security precautions, a really nice payoff for bush* would be if a 'terrorist attack' was thwarted at the last moment.

19. Probably like all the other ones.
They trundle out a new threat every couple of weeks to try and keep everyone scared.

What happened to the one about terrorists contaminating supermarket food? I wish the media would do a "whatever happened to...." feature on all these hoaxes.

21. Threats from North Africa, huh? Odd
As far as I know, France--not Britain--has suffered dozens of Islamic terrorist attacks over the past two decades, most perpetrated by groups linked to Islamic movements in North Africa, which is a region once predominately under French--not British--colonial rule. Yet, just weeks ago, the terror alert in France was lowered to pre-9/11 levels. Color me skeptical.

24. Deja vu:
Isn't this exactly what happened last year before the Anti-War protests in NY (and elsewhere)? I seem to recall the protestors' being denied permits out of "security concerns," though the St Patrick's Day parade soon thereafter garnered no such restrictions.

And of course this will not be mentioned, or correlated, in any major media outlet. All the talking heads will nod sympathetically, reassuring the masses that the threat is real and must be taken seriously.

I always wondered what it would be like to witness the birth of a fascist state. Oh look, here's one now.
