U.S. Soldier Dies in Eastern Afghanistan

JALALABAD, Afghanistan Nov. 15 — An American soldier was killed when his vehicle struck an explosive device in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, a U.S. military spokesman said Saturday.

A U.S. soldier was also reported wounded. It was not known if that soldier was hurt in the same explosion. Davis speaking at a briefing in Bagram, the U.S. military headquarters in Afghanistan would not provide details.

The coalition's "Operation Mountain Resolve" is taking place in Nuristan and Kunar provinces, a difficult area of steep, snow-covered mountains.

and these guys are very hard to replace. The Taliban is resurgent thanks to Karzai's incompetence and the warlords's abuses of the civilian population. When given a choice between order and anarchy, people will always choose order. The Taliban brought law and order to Afghanistan, while it was very harsh, more Afghans are tired of the lawlessness of the present situation than they are fearful of the Taliban.
