National Guard Prepares for Long Haul

DENVER - When National Guardsman John Schreiber learned he could be sent to Iraq before Christmas, his 7-year-old son told him, "Dad, you're going to die."

"I had to assure him that just because I'm going someplace doesn't mean something bad is going to happen," said Schreiber, a Colorado Springs firefighter and a staff sergeant in a National Guard firefighting company.

Schreiber, 34, was among about 85 Guard members in Colorado told to report to Fort Carson near Colorado Springs next month to prepare for 18-month deployments in Iraq. They haven't been told when they will ship out.

The orders prompted the Schreiber family to change their Thanksgiving plans. Instead of staying home, they'll travel to Phoenix to visit Schreiber's brothers, his ailing father and his mother.

2. What if that seven-year-old has the "Second Sight?"
(As my grandmother called it) Children have amazing powers that they are conditioned by society not to use.

3. The party of family values, indeed!
Ship dad off to be shot at, leave mom and kids with bills to pay and no resources for the next year and a half - yeah, his mom is really silly to worry about him!

What could possibly go wrong?

Hmm, next time you hear that "Give us a weekend,.." Think, "We'll give you hell on earth with no notice!"

5. My baby sister's...
NG unit in Ohio is shipping off in January
to help clean up shrubs mess and make his
Halliburton buddys even richer

And she has a 7mo old baby that'll be
motherless for at least a year.

I know she's the one who enlisted, although
she signed up prior to 9/11, perhaps if this
whole Iraq fiasco wasn't based on lies, I
could accept it more.

I'll worry about her every minute she's there:(

8. Thanks for the welcome...
I'm also sad to say that my 18yo nephew, who
is still in high school by the way, is going
to join the NG, despite my trying to persuade
him not to have anything to do with the BFEE
war machine.

It is truly sad indeed when a young person is
convinced that the military is their only
option for a career :(

But that's the way the BFEE wants it...

fucking BASTARDS!!!
