NG Soldiers Sent Overseas Despite Positive Drug Tests
Twenty-one Iowa National Guard troops who tested positive for drug use on the eve of their deployment were sent overseas anyway, despite the Army's "zero tolerance" policy. Now the Army must decide how to deal with them when they return.

Officals at Ft Mcoy, Wis., which serves as a multistate jumping-off point for Reserve and Guard troops, said about 13 soldiers from other states who tested positive for drugs were also sent to Iraq.

1. Sorry guys, but smoking pot prior to your physical
will not get you out of going to this war. Bush will do everything in his power to avoid drafting people, at least until after Election Day.

Nice try!

How about telling your CO that you are gay? Let's see if that works...

5. Same story in Vietnam era USMC
The only difference was before deployment to the war the subject would do 6 months in the Camp Pendleton brig. The subject would then be sent to Vietnam without leave. The lost 6 mos. would be added to his enlistment period. I saw many Marines go through this program.

6. Won't keep you here, "unless there's a dependency issue"
"A positive on their drug test is not going to keep them here, unless there's a dependency issue," said Linda Fournier, a Fort McCoy spokeswoman. "These units have to have so many people to go overseas."

Well, it seems clear how this loophole could be exploited -- the example was set 31 years ago by AWOL himself.

8. Nothing should happen to them
The government had its chance before sending them over there. You can't make someone go to war and then prosecute them after they serve....sorry that just looks/sounds and is bad.

11. Look At Vietnam
And who returned with chemical dependancy problems.

More than a few of them are homeless now and more than a few of them were refused treatment due to Regan's policies.
