Pte. Reshaun Richardson of the 555th Combat Engineering brigade, known as the "Triple Nickel," pushed the button that sent the Saddam statue pitching over near the gate to his former palace compound in Tikrit.

"It felt real good," said Richardson of Dothan, Ala. "There were lots of smiles around, and I had the biggest of them all."

The statue - depicting the ousted leader on a rearing horse and brandishing a sword - was made of solid bronze and stood near the main gate of the his huge palace complex.

The head of the statue was taken to 4th Infantry Division headquarters in Tikrit as a trophy, with the rest of the bronze to be shipped to Fort Hood, Texas, where it will be melted down and turned into a memorial, said Sgt.-Maj. Gregory Glen of Baltimore.

our soldiers cant be looting statues from Iraq ?? what is going on? who's idea was this? probably the same officers that retaliated against the soldiers who spoke out against Bush publically...that was pretty damn dumb too.

what is going on...? tho the war has cost each man, woman, child in the usa over 250 MILLION dollars each,,EACH... we got to leave their stuff alone. i was in an islamic republic in the Peace Corps in 73... the arabs there remembered even minor of wrongs all the way back to the days of Mahamud.. and still hold a grudge. we were in northwest africa but it is probably worse for an invading army. a friend and i were walking in town and a large group of older African boys all turned and stared at us at the same time, my friend said,"how does it feel to be an imperialist?" I can not say how much i feel for our soldiers, i am really sorry that they have to be there. i hold great anger for our STUPID president.. who is so arrogent he doesnt even read a 90 page document that will take us to WAR and be the death warrant for thousands of people and terrable life long suffering for thousands of others. i want to see that fool on his knees like he mimicked a condemned woman he refused to commute to life in prison.. one of 152 prisoners !!! pplleeaase ddoont iimmppeeeach Mmmmeeeee!!. i want to see him impeached and in JAIL.
