'Shoot-to-kill' demand by US
'Shoot-to-kill' demand by US

Martin Bright, home affairs editor
Sunday November 16, 2003
The Observer

Home Secretary David Blunkett has refused to grant diplomatic immunity to armed American special agents and snipers travelling to Britain as part of President Bush's entourage this week.

In the case of the accidental shooting of a protester, the Americans in Bush's protection squad will face justice in a British court as would any other visitor, the Home Office has confirmed.

The issue of immunity is one of a series of extraordinary US demands turned down by Ministers and Downing Street during preparations for the Bush visit.

These included the closure of the Tube network, the use of US air force planes and helicopters and the shipping in of battlefield weaponry to use against rioters.

1. Are the Bush people invading Britain? These are insane demands!
I cannot imagine a visiting foreign dignitary making such demands of an American President, and the American people will not stand for it.

Nazis!

hundred-year-old trees, rounded up the population of the island (where he went to visit the exit point for the slaves) and put them in a compound, and stopped all activity while he was around.

battlefeild equipment to use against protestors? Shuting down the TUBE? Can anyone here imagine a foreign dignitary demanding that the NY subway system be shut down for a photo op? This is outrageous!

And to think of the RW uproar over Clinton's $200 haircut! :eyes:

Of course, they don't know this yet, but they must submit to the mandatory regime change and search for WMDs.

Hey, those are the PNAC rules, limeys. Bring it on, or get over it.

I have NO hope at this point.

3. OMG!
"The Americans had also wanted to travel with a piece of military hardware called a 'mini-gun', which usually forms part of the mobile armoury in the presidential cavalcade. It is fired from a tank and can kill dozens of people. One manufacturer's description reads: 'Due to the small calibre of the round, the mini-gun can be used practically anywhere. This is especially helpful during peacekeeping deployments.'

Ministers have made clear to Washington that the firepower of the mini-gun will not be available during the state visit to Britain."

15. Mini-guns? Jesus Christ!!!
A mini-gun can fire at a cyclical rate of up to 60 rounds PER SECOND (as compared to the ~10-12 rd per sec. of the M-16). A one-minute burst can literally put thousands of rounds in the air. You could kill and wound hundreds with a single 5-sec. burst.

"especially helpful during peacekeeping deployments" my ass!! Here's an idea: how bout we deploy a nuclear warhead before Bush lands, just to be safe? Sure, he'd have to wear that bulky suit for protection, but you can never be too safe when the life of Emperor Bush is concerned, right?

37. This isn't Unreal Tournament! Holy fucking crap!
Miniguns... I can't think of any reasonable nonlethal use for one. For those who aren't gaming fanatics, miniguns are very very very VERY fast small-caliber gatling guns. They shred things. With their small bullets. Their many many small bullets.

These bastards scare the fuck out of me more and more every day.

21. Yep
Someone thought to themselves "How can I make a machine gun even MORE deadly? I know, instead of just one barrel, lets use 6 barrels! And lets hook it up to an electric motor to spin the barrels so they can fire even faster!" And thus, the mini-gun was born.

20. To be fair, those are just BB guns they sell
And the velocity is quite a bit lower than most pump-up pellet rifles that we shot as kids. You notice that they do state how it would take years of paperwork, background checks, and a minimum of $250,000 to own a real one. Hell, even the BB gun models are $5000! Ok, maybe they ARE certifiable if they want that much for a glorified BB gun :-)

And they also make BB/AirSoft versions of Klashnikov AK-47's, M-16's, and pretty much any piece of modern military small and medium arms.

the last transferrable (legal to sell from one party to another) minigun I saw was "only" $175,000. And you don't need years of paperwork, it takes about 4 mos, depending on where you live. And don't forget the $200 to BATF for the stamp.

The minigun is like any other Class III firearm...legal for civilians in many states. Be the first one on your block lol.

Jesse James (the bike builder) borrowed one mounted on a jeep to shoot up one of his projects that didn't work out. The video was pretty entertaining. If you go to the discovery channel, you can probably find a link to it.

60. The Queen is not pleased
The deteriorating relationship between the Palace and the President's security men has infuriated the Queen. When it is all over, a mighty row with the Prime Minister is on the cards.

"The Queen is annoyed to be the one having to turn down so many of the White House's requests," said a Buckingham Palace official. "Downing Street's attitude is that this is something that should be resolved between the Palace and the White House. But the fact is that the Queen is being left to negotiate a political minefield pretty much on her own.

31. What Would Happen If Protesters Were Killed?
I don't mean to want the worst to happen but I've been thinking...hard about possible scenerios.

What happens if secret service personal open fire on a crowd of protesters approaching and kill a bunch of them? It was all caught on video by a news crew and seen by millions. Chimpy was ushed back to Air Force One which quickly takes of away from danger. Which leaves a mess behing including a large number of US personal as they do not have the option of fleeing that fast... including the shooters.

Would the British police arrest or detain the agents for further investigation? What if the US administration refuses to hand over the agents and tell them so. That if the British police were ordered to arrest the shooters and the shooters were ordered not to allow them selves to be detained as they had "immunity". Any arresting police officers are treated with threats. The US plane at the runway cannot take off with the shooters as the runway has been blocked with trucks under order from a British judge or high ranking official. What if the airport where the plane is parked is surrounded on the outside with very angry protesters?

What would happen? There are so many scenerios of something bad happening with this visit that it getting really scary. Chimpy should just stay on his pig farm and not come out. Bad Things Follow Chimpy Around!

You Are Not My President.
I Did Not Vote For You.

and--->the would-be protesters are negotiating with the authorities, which means they likely won't be able to congregate in nearly the numbers they want.......many many many will be discouraged from showing at all, which is what the SNAKEmen want (United Snakes of Uremia.....clean up Armenia; get a harelip!)

this means that any angry protestors will be seen as criminals, disobeying the agreed-upon rubric, thus (in snakes' eyes, swinging public opinion against unruly mobsters)

54. Clinton represents government of the people, by the people, for the people
People Like FDR, Truman, JFK, Jimmy Carter, and Clinton are the very essence of the people. Their opposition is government of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation.

Lincoln and Teddy would probably be Democrats if they were alive today and they most definitely would not be modern day Republicans.

All those Presidents made real Kipling's words "If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch"

I think Sundays are not the what they are cracked up to be. I heard most wars are started on that day.

Traditionally, the controlling foreign power need not be a state; a corporation such as the United Fruit Company can play the role. The imposition of such a arrangement can be appreciated in a poem by Pablo Neruda, titled "La United Fruit Co." in Spanish.

The term has come to be used to describe a generally unstable or "backwards" dictatorial regime or a country where fraudulent elections are regularly held.
