Troops pull bodies from U.S. choppers
Sun 16 November, 2003 09:00

By Seb Walker

MOSUL, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. forces are retrieving bodies and wreckage after at least 17 soldiers died when two Black Hawk helicopters crashed in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

The latest disaster for U.S. forces, involving their single heaviest loss of life since the Iraq conflict began, occurred only hours after Washington set the country on a swifter passage to self-rule in a bid to calm Iraqi anger at occupation.

4. I am so tired of them breaking up the KIA into pre and post.

Finally, although I don't believe it is the single heaviest loss of life since the conflict began, I think that was last Saturday, they are lumping this whole fiasco together as just one big effing attrosity that just should have never happened.

8. You think THAT's bad...
...Wait until they tell you that only the soldiers on the first helo were "combat-related deaths". The ones in the second are going to be listed as "non-combat" or "vehicle accident".

You watch.

9. Al Jazeera-helos were lured in by ambush of foot patrol
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 09:38 AM by jmcgowanjm
As CNN STILL says cause under investigation!
When they talk about it.

I wonder what's going to happen to the soldier
who said an RPG hit the helo.
Again!-9:33-Other news ahead of
20 USsoldiers dead in helo
(ok I didn't see 9:30 lead, but their couldn't have been more than 2 minutes spent on the helos takedown).

11. Interesting , but not too surprising

was the short footage on CNN of Italian troops' coffins being brought back home to their country, but we still have yet to see our troops' flag-draped coffins returning here. I am mad and sad that our troops are being killed daily, and there seems to be no national honoring via US TV news...it's all as if their deaths should be kept as far away as possible from the US public view. If there were to be more coverage of the tragedy and travesty that this war is causing, maybe more Americans would get a wake up call that Bush is insane.

12. That makes 5 helicopters down in November . . .
"Saturday's double crash brings to five the number of US helicopters
downed in Iraq since the beginning of November.

On 2 November, a US Chinook helicopter was shot down west of
Baghdad, killing 16 soldiers. Just five days later, a Black Hawk was shot down in Saddam Hussein's hometown of
Tikrit, killing all six people aboard.

Another Black Hawk was forced down near Tikrit, but there were no casualties."

And 25 soldiers died this past week. I can't help but wonder what Saddam must be thinking. He's 'cleaning shrub's clock'.

14. Apparently we are helping to train the Iraqi military.
We've given them lots of large and obvious targets to practice on.
