UK man on the run after exposing bugging in Pak mission

A former British Secret Service MI5 agent who blew the whistle on an attempt to bug the Pakistani high commission in London has fled to Europe and is threatening to reveal more about the aborted operation.

The agent claimed to have a dossier of evidence, including documents and photographs revealing details about MI5's espionage techniques and what information it was trying to obtain about Pakistan, The Sunday Times reported.

The man, a building contractor who was codenamed Notation, left Britain in November, shortly before the Sunday Times exposed the spying operation.

British Home Secretary David Blunkett, who is furious about the botched spying operation and the leak, has denied signing warrants authorising the espionage attempt. That appears to contradict claims by Notation who said he received detailed assurances from MI5 that the home secretary has issued warrants. "Claire, my handler, told me on several occasions how MI5 obtained the warrants from Blunkett," he said.

1. If there is a DUer called "Notation"...
I suggest you lay low for a while - you could be accidentally iced.

3. Thought he was in danger of being exposed.
From the article:

"The operation was aborted after Notation became worried that his role could be exposed. He later wrote to the parliamentary intelligence and security committee, saying he was concerned for his safety."

Maybe he cut a deal with Pakistan or something?

5. Umm
"I suggest you lay low for a while - you could be accidentally iced."

Neither Shayler or Tompkins were "iced".

If this guy has broken the official secrets act he'll get arrested and go to prison.

6. I don't get it...
Why the sympathy for this guy "notation"?

He's blown an operation against a country that:

a) is ruled by a military dictator, who overthrew a democratically elected president in a coup de tat.

b) posseses nuclear weapons.

c) has ties to islamic terrorism.

d) is one of the two countries (the other being India) that could trigger a nuclear exchange in Asia.

e) routinely discriminates against it's own citizens ont he basis of religion.

This "notation" guy is a traitor and should be treated as such, he's no hero, he deserves to do 10 years at HM's pleasure for breaking the official secrets act.

9. What sympathy?
It says his friends are worried about him, because
his is - possibly - a bit "unstable", but no sympathy
is expressed.

I would think the question would be: "who picked this dip
for a sensitive mission?" I mean it's really a mess,eh?

10. Umm..
I was referring to the post by Rooboy, I guess I should have used the "reply" option. Sorry. I infered his support for "notation" from his post.

" "who picked this dip for a sensitive mission?" I mean it's really a mess,eh?"

I couldn't agree more... I'm wondering the same thing. Surely inserting someone into the embassy as part of a cleaning crew or maintenance team isn't exactly difficult or risky.
