Bush security swings into action
An "unprecedented" security operation is under way ahead of US President George Bush's state visit to Britain.

Extra police are at ports and airports, and have been checking people arriving on Eurostar trains from France.

Police are also meeting the Stop the War Coalition to discuss the route of Thursday's protest march, where tens of thousands of people are expected.

Lib Dem leader Charles Kennedy told the BBC that the president needed to be shown the extent of public concern.

1. They've imposed a 'sterile zone' in central london
and are searching everyone's bags for the sort of stuff you can't now take as hand luggage on board aircraft since 9-11: nail scissors, files, knitting needles, etc.

Hope they return the compliment when Airforce 1 lands and search his goddam baggage, given that an official poll in yesterday's papers showed that 60% of Brits think that Bush is a threat to world peace.

NB: An interesting situation arises if he plans to attend the 'Gala Dinner' that his ambassador William Stamps Farish III plans hosting for Queen Elizabeth at Winfield House in Regents Park Outer Circle, on Thursday evening. The Residence is less than a quarter of a mile away from the London homes of UK-domiciled democrats who hold life long anti-harrassment injunctions against Bush, which expressly forbid him coming within a 10 mile radius of them, their families or their properties. Both the UK High Court as well as the US Supreme Court have previously upheld these injunctions and fined the bastard heavily for breaking them. Technically the same injunction applies if he is thinking of landing Airforce 1 in RAF Northolt - the airfiled nearby Heathrow.

Just hope his lawyers know the UK penalty that applies for suborning witnesses and perverting the course of justice.

2. Hmm... regarding those injunctions
Isn't it possible to get life in prison for perverting the course of justice?

3. In the UK: Yes. No parole. All personal and family assets
frozen and confiscated. Optional transfer to Guantanamo Bay so relatives will find it easier to visit: negotiable.

However, if you tally up the entire list, add masterminding the Banco Ambrosiano bank heist, the BCCI plunder, the subsequent gagging of all 9-11 intelligence/warnings and then the 2004 re-election strategy of personal profile upping by sending US troops to kill Saddam......I think that it might be more appropriate to get the Texas electric chair out of mothballs (death by lethal injection being possibly too pleasant)

4. Injunctions? Do you have a link I can read?
I can't tell if you are serious or humorous.

5. Deadly serious - but trying to maintain a modicum of humour
about a hideous situation.

The injunctions are not listed online but concern residents owning properties in the Inner Circle - just south of Winfield House, on the other side of the Boating Lake and wildlife bird sanctuary

6. Yo! What about the homeland?
Edited on Mon Nov-17-03 09:41 AM by PATRICK
20 million for the pResident's security for a day multiply times 280,000,000 US citizens times 365 days a year means about 2,044,000,000,000, per year, something like George's tax cut, the price tag on future wars or the number of Diebold manufactured votes for the next few years remaining in our sham of a democracy.

Will the price come down if they decide to market this level of security for the average citizen?
