Port Said - A large fire swept through the old commercial district of the Mediterranean port city on Sunday, killing two people, injuring more than 60 and destroying about 20 buildings, officials said.
The fire raged for more than four hours before being controlled by firefighters and Egyptian marines. An initial investigation indicated the blaze was started by the explosion of a cooking gas canister, said a police official who spoke on customary condition of anonymity.
He said high winds swept the flames through the area of old buildings, some of them wooden.
