UK's Iraq envoy says military might not enough

LONDON (Reuters) - Military might is not sufficient to tackle the security situation in Iraq, says Britain's special representative to the war-torn country.

Jeremy Greenstock was speaking in London on Monday as U.S. troops drove tanks and heavy armour through Saddam Hussein's hometown Tikrit to, as one U.S. officer said, remind insurgents his troops "will absolutely crush the resistance".

Greenstock said a response to Iraq's security threat had to be two-pronged: political and military.

"We've got to have a comprehensive approach to turning around the security situation," Greenstock said, just days after Iraq's U.S.-appointed Governing Council announced a new transitional government will take over running Iraq in June.
