Bush to be cut down to size on London visit
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/11/18/1069027060035.html

US President George Bush will come toppling to earth in giant effigy form on Thursday in a symbolic simulation of the destruction by US troops of a huge statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad in April.

Anti-war protesters, opposed to the US-led war in Iraq and its aftermath, are busy constructing the six-metre tall statue of Mr Bush and will haul down the effigy in Trafalgar Square in central London with the help of a pink tank.

"This will show people all over the world that we don't agree with the war in Iraq," Mell Harrison, 32, of the Theatre of War activist group said on Monday at a remote cottage in Belton, some 160 kilometres north-east of London.

1. I love it, but what effect will it have on average, apolitical Americans?
Will they stick up for their president; gather together in symbolic, patriotic esprit de corps? Or will they be embarrassed and want to dissociate from him?

2. Surely and for goodness sakes
this stupor over the American people has to come to an end soon? Truly all(majority) the people can't be fooled all the time can they?
Sometimes it seems hopeless, but a winner never quits and a quitter never wins, right?

16. No......most of them don't read newspapers or watch the news
CNN is always on in our Post Office so people waiting in line might see something, although CNN will put major spin on it, so viewers won't see the real story.

3. Bush's tour of Buckingham Palace
may go something like this:

"This is the third corner of your bedroom. It is one of the finest corners in all of England. Now walk this way to the fourth corn--NO!! Don't look out the window!"

8. Well it might show people all over the world that Bush is hated
but it will not, as in the protests all over the world against the invasion, have much effect at all. Here, we will probably not see much at all about it. Ho hum--Bush is welcomed in London and is visiting the Queen, who in her adoration of Bush, invited him to visit her in her castle. Ho hum.

Meanwhile, we have our young being attacked and killed daily in Iraq, and we are beginning to see our senior citizens becoming deprived of their SS benefits--which most of them thought they had paid into all of theri working lives in order to not be destitute in their final, golden years. Many of those are not wealthy seniors galavanting around in their two hundred thousand dollar RV's--many are just plain ordinary, nice guy elders, who may have to go back to work at the age of seventy in order to buy food and medicine.

Why are the Republicans so intent upon destroying this bulwark for older citizens? It simply does not make sensse to me. Why are they trying to kill off the elders in the society?

What the heck is that? I wish I could be there to protest Bush because he deserves it...but a pink tank...come on they could come up with something better than that

15. Apparent Bush effigy bashing is becoming ...
... a craze for the Bush Visit. Sad that us Americans have lost the fine art form of effigy bashing and burning.

18. And there will be a helluva lot more people celebrating
when this statue comes down than when Saddam's was toppled in Baghdad. No need to monkey with the camera angles. :)
