US admits Iraq is terror 'cause'
By Tom Baldwin

Report says that 11,000 attacks worldwide shows the war has become driving factor for extremists

THREE years after its invasion of Iraq the US Administration acknowledged yesterday that the war has become “a cause” for Islamic extremists worldwide and there is a risk of the country becoming a safe haven for terrorists hoping to launch fresh attacks on America. According to CIA data released yesterday, there were 11,111 terrorist incidents last year, killing more than 14,600 non-combatants, including 8,300 in Iraq. Of the 56 American civilians killed by terrorists in 2005, some 47 of them were in Iraq.

<snip>

Ambassador Henry Crumpton, the US special co-ordinator for counter-terrorism, came close yesterday to suggesting that the war was exacerbating the terrorist problem, saying that for some international recruits “Iraq is a cause”. Whilst arguing that Iraq was “not currently a safe haven” for terrorists, the report stated: “AlQaeda’s senior leaders have fully supported the Iraq terrorist movements and see it both as a means to influence and radicalise Muslim public opinion worldwide and as a magnet to draw in as many recruits as possible.”

Attacks on Iraq’s energy infrastructure "not only made the Iraqi Government appear incapable of providing essential services but . . . also sought to undercut public and international support for Iraq". Foreign fighters are believed to represent 4 to 10 per cent of the estimated 20,000 insurgents in Iraq.

Shortly after the report was released, Ayman al-Zawahri, al-Qaeda's deputy leader, issued a rare video claiming that Iraqi insurgents had “broken America’s back”. “Al-Qaeda in Iraq alone has carried out 800 martyrdom operations in three years, besides the victories of the other Mujahidin. And this is what has broken the back of America in Iraq,” Zawahri said in the video, posted on an Islamist Web site.

4. I am still amazed, though,
at the "they hate us for our freedom" crowd that still supports fighting Iraq.

Lots of people REFUSE to believe that the US war of aggression against Iraq has contributed at all to fundamentalist terrorist recruiting.

6. Yes indeed, Texaslawyer
It's not rocket science and they refuse to read the PNAC document where they lay out their plans in black and white. I just don't get it but one's thing's for sure.. We have to save our country from these criminals.

M$M still brainwashing the USA electorate

M$M being one of the PNACer's poodles

Job creation tops US diplomat's Iraq agenda
By Steve Negus,Iraq Correspondent

Published: April 29 2006 03:00 | Last updated: April 29 2006 03:00

With the need to disarm militias becoming a main priority in stabilising Iraq, the US ambassador to the country yesterday revealed plans to try to mobilise international donors to fund schemes to stand down armed groups and find their members jobs. Among the donors that would be urged to help are some of Iraq's neighbours.

"Discussions are going on about the possibility of some sort of international meeting {before the end of the year} that could discuss {a compact in which} the Iraqi government commits itself to certain goals, and the international community led by the states of the region and others commit themselves to support" those goals, Zalmay Khalilzad told the FT.

"One of the areas where there will be a need for help from the international community will be the reintegration of people who are in militias and other unauthorised military formations" into other occupations, Mr Khalilzad said, speaking from his residence in Baghdad's fortified green zone.

<snip>

US military officers have suggested job creation as a response both to the militia problem and to the insurgency, giving the country's millions of unemployed young men an alternative way to earn their living.

US admits Iraq could become haven for terror

Ewen MacAskill in Washington
Saturday April 29, 2006
The Guardian

The US state department acknowledged yesterday that there is a risk of Iraq becoming a safe haven for terrorists three years after the invasion of the country.

The warning is contained in the state department's annual country reports on terrorism. The report, which suggests an increase in terrorist attacks worldwide, appears to undermine repeated claims by President George Bush that the US is winning the "war on terrorism".

The report says: "Iraq is not currently a terrorist safe haven, but terrorists including Sunni groups like al-Qaida in Iraq, Ansar al-Islam and Ansar al-Sunna, as well as Shia extremists and other groups, view Iraq as a potential safe haven and are attempting to make it a reality."

The department said some of Iraq's neighbours, including Syria, had not been helpful in the battle to try to prevent the creation of a terrorist safe haven.

13. Could become?!!
The minute the US went there Iraq became the focal point for terrorists. To the British, Paul Revere and the Minutemen were terrorists. We regard them as patriots. In Iraq, the so-called terrorists, or insurgents, or whatever you want to call them are heroes, loved by the vast majority of the people.

I would hate to have to worry about Iraq AND Canada which, according to a bush cabal report, we are ALREADY a haven!

U.S. blasts Canada on terrorism

Islamic terrorist cells continue to operate in Canada, according to a Bush administration report released yesterday that fingers a “liberal” immigration system for allowing terrorists to infiltrate the country.
