Conrad Black, Hollinger chief and Telegraph owner steps down

The chief of Hollinger International, Conrad Black, owner of the UK conservative Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph, dramatically agreed to resign today after admitting he and other executives had received unauthorised secret payments totalling around 30 million dollars.

In a move that has sent rivals scurrying to assess the value of a Telegraph takeover, Conrad Black also indicated he may be willing to sell the newspaper group.

Hmm. This guy, who in addition to running the Telegraph, also owns the Chicago Sun Times, the Jerusalem Post and part of the New York Sun, is second only to Murdoch in right wing media asshole-dom. And he's a crook.

... since his group has a majority interest in a number of Canadian papers, as well.

Maybe the new owners will have the sense to kick Richard Perle off the board of the Telegraph, as well, and to revert it from the slyly right-wing rag it is now to the independent, respected newspaper it once was.
