More Troops to Iraq (Denmark sends 40)
The Danish government has approved the deployment of a supplemental force of 40 troops to Iraq

Defence Minister Svend Aage Jensby confirmed late Wednesday that the Danish government will deploy 40 additional troops to Iraq. Jensby's statement followed a meeting of parliament's Foreign Policy Committee.

The supplementary force will support Denmark's existing 370-man contingent currently operating in the Basra region. The new troops will also complete new assignments, including training of local police. Eleven Danish military police personnel will leave for Iraq at the end of this month to aid in training efforts.

Denmark will also send an additional 12-man scout unit to complete escort and security operations, and 10 more troops for the Danish security force. Jensby is prepared to send up to nine supply personnel, to ensure that Danish forces receive adequate supplies of food and equipment.

27. You overlooked the "additional 12-man scout unit" and "10 more troops."
So its actually 62. It is a fairly impressive accomplishment for Bush foreign policy.

4. Nice work Rummy
This must be that huge coalition, Faux keeps blathering about.

I hope hostilities subside, at the current rate of 1-2 KIA and 3-5 wounded per day, these troops ought to keep us holding steady for eight days.

12. "vibrant"? I thought we were talking about "robust"...
I know Smirko has an affinity for saying "fabulous" (he said it again to Poodle, after the Congress dog-and-Tony show, at their together-forever press conference)..."fabulous" aside, isn't "vibrant" a bit, well, Martha Stewartish to use as a descriptor for the military??? I mean, "vibrant" sorta leaves me expecting uniforms in yellows, reds, and tropical greens...

7. What's amazing is Bush expects other leaders to send troops to clean up
the mess he created...In the first place all these other countries were AGAINST going to war so why should they be eager to get involved now, and in the second place Bush insulted and alienated many world leaders and countries so why should they be eager to get involved now???....Is he just too damned dumb to figure this out for himself?...Never mind...I know the answer to that!

Danish forces in
Iraq armed with
snow shovels

Danish security forces in Iraq,
struggling with temperatures of
about 50 degrees Celsius, are
prepared for the worst - even a
blizzard.

The almost 400 soldiers from the
chilly Nordic are equipped with
snow shovels, brooms and a
lawnmower as they work to
restore law and order in the
war-torn country.

"It's all part of a standard camp
equipment," Jess Rasmussen
from the Danish Army
Operational Command's materiel
section told Reuters.

"It clearly should have been taken
out before shipment but on the
other hand it makes no harm."

19. I'm sure they just misunderstood
The Danish soldiers thought they were being sent to restore "lawn order", not "law and order", hence the snow shovels and lawn mower.;-)

15. Although the Danish govt joined the "coalition," the Danish people opposed
the preemptive attack against Iraq.

So, the Danish leadership finds itself, like the Bushies, painted into a corner.

21. Indeed..
.. though, it's still 47 percent in favor with 45 percent opposing the war. But, I can still remember the masses of people in the strikes back in April (I think it was) - and I find it incredible that any politician can just ignore such a message.

Also, our secretary of state is rather lame at the moment, claiming that the above number in favor is due to to the discovery of mass graves. Hello - people know that these existed, but that still wouldn't warrant an attack.

At the moment, I'm ashamed of the government I helped elect.

25. Look at the bright side..
.. at least they get to do something. Back home in Denmark, some part of the military has become a joke. Ie. sailors who spend 3 months on their bed with full pay etc. because noone have a clue as to what they can do.
