Bush flies in to Fortress London

Simon Jeffery and agencies
Tuesday November 18, 2003

The US president, George Bush, today boarded Air Force One to fly to London for the most heavily-policed state visit in British history.

Mr Bush will arrive at RAF Northolt, in Middlesex, this evening. He will travel to Buckingham Palace by helicopter, where a private welcome from the Prince of Wales begins a four-day itinerary taking in meetings with the prime minister and the main party leaders, and a banquet with the Queen.

The first protest against Mr Bush is scheduled to coincide with his arrival. At 6pm, enviromental campaigners will march from Lincoln's Inn Fields, in central London, to the US embassy to demonstrate against his support for the oil industry and refusal to sign the Kyoto protocol on climate change.

1. after reading all of the threads and the articles describing this visit
I have come to the conclusion that this little prick actually enjoys this--it makes him look big--it makes him look feared--it distinguishes him as a man to be reckoned with--he is so fearsome that he, indeed, does have a lot of enemies who are out to get him. Bring em on!

Why do I think that he could care less--he will not be affected by these protests at all. He is not paying a dime for it--and he gets to capitalize on the spin to show what a great, sophisticated, well travelled leader he is. The media in the US will be curtailed and be instructed to down play any protests and they will subserviently comply--they are pigs and whores-- he will spin madly on how successful the visit was and how grateful he is to have been "invited" when he was not invited at all. Already the headlines on the Yahoo page , the Reuters and the AP headlines are touting this visit as a business visit--a different spin than yesterday--today's headlines concentrate on the lie that he is going to Britain to talk about Iraq!! Gollyeeeeeeee--with who? The Queen? Charles? Andrew?

'Tis true the Queen doesn't make Brit policy or law. So indeed it must be a business trip for junior. Is it to inform the Royal Family how well Carlyle & Halliburton are doing these days? I'm sure John Major will attend the Royal Feast. John Major is one of the Carlyle boys ya' know?

3. opportunity costs
"The Liberal Democrats' mayoral candidate, Simon Hughes, said that the cost of policing the visit could pay for six full-time police officers for every London borough - a total of 200 across London - for a year."

But instead, they use that money to pay for King George's photo-op visit.

4. The protesters have already made their point, loud and clear
Bush cannot fly into Heathrow; he must use a military airbase.

Bush cannot address Parliament; dissident MPs will walk out.

Bush cannot ride through London in a carriage; demonstrators will line the streets.

About all he can do is shake hands with Tony Blair under tight security and sleep over behind the walls of Buckingham Palace.

Bush is the most hated man in the world. He deserves to be, since he is the most dangerous man the world has seen in at least half a century, if not ever. He can't go out in public. For the rest of his life, he'll only see adoring crowds if he controls ticket sales.

9. He doesn't want to go out, anyway.
He hates sightseeing – museums, theatre, etc. He did the Hermitage in 20 minutes, and spent about 20 minutes at the Bolshoi. He really doesn't mind living in his own little bubble.

6. and yet the BBC shows Heathrow as the destination
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/low/uk_news/politics/3279179.stm

complete with pictures on TV of sniffer dogs searching for explosives or mortars.

Is the whole trip going to be one of misdirection? Is that what they're reduced to? Isn't that what Saddam Hussein spent his time doing?

16. Misdirection is a possible strategy
It only underscores that Bush needs more security than past American leaders while traveling.

We may well ask why.

27. We don't need to ask why
When you're a fucking idiot son of an asshole who has pissed off the entire world (except for Tony "fifi" Blair), no further explanation is needed. Remember that the UK and the rest of Europe are a lot closer to the alleged "evildoers" than we are, and more likely to be stuck with any repercussions of PNAC fascist idiocy.

7. Sure it will be
we cannot think that the trip will be reported accurately by our media. Mostly everyone expects that by now.

Here is the happy couple going off to visit the Queen and talk about Iraq--well she is going to enjoy the fairy tale, but he says he is going to talk about Iraq LOL She looks really whacko in the face and is wearing her oversized chef's jacket, and he looks as if he has had one too many drinks with his lunch.

11. British Polls
Yet the Guardian, which up till now I found a somewhat interesting barometer of Brit opinion, is blaring some poll spin about "support for war among Brits surges". When you read the actual questions asked, that is NOT the result. I guess the whoredom of the media reaches everwhere and no one is immune. Another sad commentary on the state of the world. I hope the protests are the biggest in Brit history.

17. BBC (Tuesday): Bush arrived at Heathrow
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 03:16 PM by Jack Rabbit
From the BBC Online
Dated Tuesday November 18 20:01 GMT (12:01 pm PST)

Bush arrives at Buckingham Palace

George Bush has arrived in the UK for the first state visit by a US president amid some of the tightest security London has ever seen.
Prince Charles met Mr Bush and his wife at Heathrow, before they travelled via helicopter to Buckingham Palace for a welcome reception with the Queen.
The last president to stay in the palace was Woodrow Wilson in 1918.
Scotland Yard has put in place a £5m operation which peaks with 5,100 police on the capital's streets.

Emphasis added in the above.

22. "I'm sorry Mr. pResident, we'll have to use the servant's door."
"'S okay with me. That's where they've put the cases of Lone Star, right?"

No public appearances.
No carriage procession down the Mall.
No address to Parliament.
Just a three-day binge down there in the catacombs, somewhere.
Perfect. And the American and British governments are shelling out how much for this?
