US Destroy Homes of Iraqi Suspects
" In a tactic reminiscent of Israeli crackdowns in the West Bank and Gaza, the US military has begun destroying the homes of suspected guerilla fighters in Iraq's Sunni Triangle, evaculating women and children, then leveling their houses with heavy weaponry."

"Family members at a house in the village of al Haweda said they were given 5 minutes before soldiers opened fire"

This is in the Tacoma News Tribune but they have no link to it on their web site. I searched for author Jeff Wilkinson (Knight Ridder Newspapes) but could not find the article. Please post the link if this was in your paper.

Comment: I can't believe we are doing this. This tactic is the main thing that has turned me against the Israeli's and it hasn't exactly stopped suicide bombings there!

21. Gee, this works so well for Israel we must do the same.
That is why there is no peace in the ME today. Just think how people here feel when their home is destroyed by fire or flood. We have no proof of who these people are..they are "suspects." so we destroy the home of women and children and old people. I guess we don't give a damn, seeing how many homeless we have here in America.

3. Boy, Dub's sure caving in to Sharon's desires...
Right down to destroying homes of innocents to "retaliate". One question, though: how's destorying someone's home supposed to make them--or their family--STOP shooting at us? Suuure hasn't worked real well for the IDF in the West Bank!:eyes:

B-)

7. We should kill all those Iraqis
because they don't like us? Take a read through some history and see what they call the ones who flatten civilian homes and kill women and babies and little boys and old men indiscriminatly.

You can't believe they are a threat to you. You must know they never were. Is it just the killing that excites you? Is that what must happen before you will feel safe?

9. The story says they are flattening the homes of <<suspects>>.
Evidence of criminality weighs heavily against the soldiers who are destroying the homes of suspects - homes that are basic to their survival as human beings.

As for indescriminate levelling these towns: this is known as an international war crime. Above it all - we have no business being in Iraq.

11. was just watching
Mosaics on WorldLink...the Iranian segment featured this story w/ footage of women in the streets w/ children in arms, plus they reminded their viewers that the night was 'very cold', they also featured 'an elderly grandmother' w/ her hands bound??? what's up w/ that??? Don't these napoleon wannabes understand how this is all playing on ME televisions?

Iranian TV also had footage of American flag draped coffins being unloaded - first I've seen - wonder how they got the footage?

Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 06:09 PM by BonjourUSA
the tv report which we saw is very hard.

I'm afraid many more "terrorists" or "resistants" or "rebels" have been enrolled after this kind of attack than killed

15. Yes, one woman in the article
whose husband wasn't a suspect was arrested because he didn't turn in his son, who was a suspect and got away, said she had no son, no husband and no home. I just can't believe in just 3 years this country has fell so far. In the same paper as this story is a picture of a young widow and her twin baby boys that their father never got to see because he was killed in the last helicopter wreck in Iraq. It is just all so sad, such a stupid loss of life and property and so madening!

19. Nightline had a piece about this last night
It was horrifying. An American officer (can't remember the rank), repeatedly told his troops - there's just one word you need to remember - DESTROY!

It showed our troops busting in doors, in the middle of the night, then tearing Iraqi civilian's homes apart. Because the troops did not speak their language, they would push people down, then stomp on their backs w/their boots.

I-can-not-support-troops-like-that.

20. I can't believe we've become so inhuman
in such a short span of time! How is bulldozing "suspects" homes fit into a vision of a "democratic" and "free" iraq? How would any of us feel if the same were done here? Combine this with destroying their crops and I'm pretty damn close to moving to Canada in shame of my country. :-(
