Rhode Island Senator (Chafee) Won't Firmly Support Bush* in 2004
Providence, RI (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-abortion Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) may be having second thoughts about supporting President Bush's re-election efforts. Chafee said in June that he was a loyal Republican and would support Bush for reelection. However, Chafee hinted last week at a change of heart. He has received an offer to help lead Bush's reelection campaign in Rhode Island, but hasn't responded. "I don't think I ever definitively responded" to the overture from the Bush camp, Chafee said. "It was just too early," Chafee said. "I've been pretty preoccupied." He aded that he has differences with Bush on key issues. Asked whether he would support Bush, "I'm a good Republican," Chafee responded, smiling. Chafee was then asked why he would not give a "yes" or "no" answer to the question."That's as far as I'll go," he responded.

1. Why am I not suprised?
Maybe Collins and Snowe will fall in line as well.

3. Can we say he's "pro-choice"
instead of "pro-abortion?" That's a RW term and it's also freely thrown about by the anti-choice brigades, along with "late term abortion." They just sound uglier.

Yours in eternal hair-splitting,

RV

4. This link goes to a right-to-life website, look at how they described
Chafee, pro-abortion instead of pro-choice. That was the first giveaway that these people are going after Chafee. He had better be prepared.

13. His comments were a hint
"I am a good Republican" is a message to the moderate republicans who see the extremist faction that's taken over their party and will cross party lines in 2004 to vote them out. I know several Republicans who are planning to do just that and from what I'm hearing, Clark is their choice.

16. Lemme get this -- Lieberman's evil and Chafee's a profile-in-courage?
Sorry, but I can't think of a bigger wuss than Chafee -- this guy disagrees with Bush on virtually everything, yet he still calls himself a "loyal Republican" and votes for a right-wing Senate Republican leadership and right-wing judges. Has he supported a single Democratic fillibuster? Didn't think so. Some profile in courage. The fact is, Chafee isn't going to endorse anyone other than Bush in 2004. He may enjoy playing coy to the press, but the fact is, he's just a self-loathing Republican butt monkey who doesn't have the guts to do what Jeffords did.

18. all the same
Politicians are all the same..Sure he is being coy with Bush's Rhode Island poll numbers. Another concern, when is Chafee's term up?
If he votes for Bush's tax cuts and judicial appointments he is a Republican true to the fold.. Think Jeffords opposed Bush's tax cuts.? A little more guts there...?
I understand Rhode Island to be as liberal as Vermont?

20. True, but we still
ought to email an invitation to join our side. It should be a stark contrast to the hatemail I'm sure he is receiving from his own party. Drop him a note today to encourage him to go where he would be appreciated.

21. Why not call him in the morning, TOLL FREE?
1 (800) 839 - 5276 - the Toll Free Capitol Hill Switchboard number -
They'll transfer you, free, to anybody's office in the House and/or Senate. Call 'em and ask for Chafee's office. Then thank him and give him encouragement! Positive reinforcement!
