Canberra briefed in 2003 on Iraq oil carve-up plan ("blood for oil")
Canberra briefed in 2003 on Iraq oil carve-up plan
By Richard Baker
May 11, 2006

THE Howard Government was briefed in May 2003 by BHP Billiton and Tigris Petroleum on their plans to get US Vice-President Dick Cheney, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to support their bid to carve up Iraq's oilfields.

Documents released by the Cole inquiry reveal Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer was told by former British foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind at a meeting on May 19, 2003, in London that BHP and Tigris planned to inject up to $2 billion into Iraqi oilfields. Sir Malcolm, a BHP consultant and long-time associate of Tigris chief Norman Davidson Kelly, told Mr Downer that high-level political support would be required to ensure that the BHP/Tigris plan succeeded.

He told Mr Downer the Australian Government would need to press the BHP/Tigris claim in Washington and Baghdad. Sir Malcolm said he would meet Mr Cheney to discuss the proposal, adding that BHP and Tigris would also lobby Downing Street.

Mr Downer pledged to support the oil plan but stressed the political sensitivities raised by the proposal. A declassified Foreign Affairs document recording the conversation with Sir Malcolm shows Mr Downer said the suggestion of new oilfields could pose problems as it "played into sensitivities over the war". Mr Downer is also recorded as saying: "The Coalition has been clear there would not be blood for oil. The Australian Government said sincerely that it had not joined Coalition forces on the very basis of oil."

3. Unfortunately, there are far too many who don't care
We need the oil. They have it, and we're entitled to take it by any means necessary.

6. I don't agree that people don't care. All available evidence points the
other way--that people care a lot. But they are disempowered, and, above all, DISENFRANCHISED. Also, decisions about cars, freeways, oil--all taken out of the hands of the people. People are literally trapped in their cars. They have no other transportation, mostly. They have to work where there is work. They have to live where there is housing. All of it has been deisigned to sell oil--and to defy the interests and wishes of the American people.

People care a lot about the war, about the rich bilking the poor, about injustice, about the environment--but they don't know what to do. They are only just getting the word on the rigged voting machines--because of the "Iron Curtain" over this news. There is a great and determined grass roots movement to defeat the machines, nationwide. THIS is what we can DO. We MUST restore TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS, and elections run by the public, not by private BUSHITE corporations behind a veil of secrecy.

We must get back our right to vote! It is the mechanism by which we exercise our sovereignty as a people. Without it, we have no power.

Congressional bills:

Russ Holt's HR 550 requires a real paper ballot, bans secret software in "voting machines", and has more than 170 co-sponsors, but the audit required is too weak, it promotes electronic voting and centralized power, and the secret software might be permitted to continue in the central tabulators (the bill is not clear). (Note: Senate Bill-SB 330 and House-HR704 simply require a "voter verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT), which may be best for the moment.)

4. Some people (too many) just don't get it - Iraq is not really about oil
.
.
.

Iraq is to Russia and China what Cuba was to the USA in 1961

The USA is creating missile bases right in Russia and China's back yard.

I'd bet they have nuclear armed subs in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf already.

Saddam had underground facilities that extended from Saddam Airport to Baghdad - we haven't heard SQUAT about that -

wanna know why?

Cuz the USA will pretend they don't exist and use it for themselves

Anyone remember a wee squeak of a blurb about access doors under the airport? and the roads and bunkers that entered into one or more of Saddam's palaces ?- I do - and it disappeared offa the MSM's news(radar) real quick

Sumthing to think about

Gotta remember

The USA stole the German scientist's wizardry to finish creating the bomb

Haven't changed strategy one wee bit methinks

And adopted Adolf's attitude toward humanity, and the idea of a "supreme" race . .

(sigh)

5. Trident Subs ...
THERE are always Nuclear subs out there... this is nothing new ... each battle group ... each aircraft carrier is escorted by a Trident Sub ... standard op ... On 9-11 the Carl Vincen Battle Group was escorted into the Indian Ocean by the USS Keywest that left out of Pearl in late August ... they went BACK to Japan and picked up a load of MARINES and returned within 24 hours to dog-paddle for a month waiting for the coalition to build ...
