RMIT launches tumours investigation

RMIT University has begun investigating whether there is a link between one of its Melbourne campus buildings and seven staff who have brain tumours.

Seven people who work on the two top floors of the RMIT Business Building in Bourke Street have been diagnosed with brain tumours in the past seven years.

Telecommunications towers are on top of the building.

Radiation and air quality tests carried out in 2001 after the first two cases were diagnosed but they found nothing wrong.

Kelly Parkinson, from the Mobile Carriers Forum, says there is no link between mobile towers and cancer.

We live within a mile of a cell tower...I've watched news on the links between these towers and health issues ever since. I'm sure most DUers live near cell towers. :(

1. cell reception in my house is terrible. i am nowhere near any towers, and

i'm quite thankful. NIMBY at work! 8^)

2. It doesn't take a weatherman ... .

A flawed technology which I hope will be replaced with more advanced technology.

In the meantime, I'm quite content without a cell phone. If I need to fry my brain, there's always the microwave oven.

3. No link found yet

To date nobody has been able to prove any link nor come up with a mechanism by which this would happen. But we have seen lots of cancer clusters from Chemical contamination of environment and foodstuffs.

4. You're actually better off being in the building.

Underneath a tower. The wave energy is lowest under and behind the emitter - almost nonexistent. There must be something else going on in that building.
