Expect oil prices to skyrocket today.

LAGOS, Nigeria - An oil pipeline exploded Friday in Nigeria and up to 200 people are feared dead, a local television station reported.

The fiery blast came as villagers flocked to a ruptured conduit in Ilado, outside the main city of Lagos, to scoop up fuel that was gushing out, according to Nigeria’s Channels Television. Up to 200 may have perished in the explosion, the station said.

People often tap into the pipelines to steal fuel, which can be ignited causing huge fireballs.

Those oil traders need to take a chill pill.

8. Not until after the elections
If gas is $4 a gallon over the summer and into the fall, the GOP will definitely lose big. I really don't think they're going to take chances-they will find a way to lower gas prices and they will then make a really big deal about it.

At least that's what they will do if they want to keep majorities in both houses.

6. Nigeria = the new hot spot on the horizon.
It seems that wherever oil interests go, you have trouble. The Middle East is a tinderbox, ready to blow. And not from the oil underground.

Nigeria is critically important to the US. We import 1.342 million barrels per day. If that supply were to be disrupted, expect higher gas prices at the pump. Also, one oil executive was killed there yesterday, and 2 hostages were taken (probably Italian).

It seems the Nigerians are upset. They feel they are being gouged, and they want more money from the oil revenues.

9. I'm wondering about the priorities of several DUers
Up to 200 people may be dead, and the responses are about oil prices? A bit of perspective, please, everyone.

10. point taken. I didn't mean to sound insensitive.
it wasn't my intent to minimalize the deaths of 200 people, nor was it meant to sound like I was whining about my having to pay $4 per gallon for gas. My remark was meant to highlight another example of how this corrupt oil based administration's cronies seem to always profit from tragedies like this, including on a much larger scale, Iraq.
