Minutemen, protesters square off at Capitol

By Andy Sullivan 19 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Illegal immigration protesters wrapped up a cross-country caravan on Friday with a rally in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol, as immigrant-rights activists chanted for them to "go away."

Members of the Minuteman Project and other border-patrol groups warned the United States was in danger of being overrun by Mexicans if the Senate passes a bill that would give millions of illegal immigrants a chance to earn citizenship.

"They should be rounded up and deported, every single one of them," John Clark of the American Immigration Control Foundation said to a cheering crowd of about two dozen. "Leave them here and in 10 years this will not be the United States of America."

Fifty yards away a similar number of counter-protesters chanted "Minutemen go away, immigrants are here to stay" behind a line of police.

Not very impressive.

Freeper rallies start getting impressive when they have 4 to 5 or more portapotties.

Here's a typical Freeper two-portapotty rally

Gibson: "Make more babies" because in "wenty-five years ... the majority of the population is Hispanic"

Summary: On The Big Story, John Gibson urged viewers to "o your duty. Make more babies," because he had found out, from a recently released report, that nearly half of all children under the age of five in the United States are minorities. Gibson added: "You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the population is Hispanic." Gibson later repeated: "To put it bluntly, we need more babies."

On the May 11 edition of Fox News' The Big Story, host John Gibson advised viewers during the "My Word" segment of his program to "o your duty. Make more babies." He then cited a May 10 article, which reported that nearly half of all children under the age of five in the United States are minorities. Gibson added: "By far, the greatest number are Hispanic. You know what that means? Twenty-five years and the majority of the population is Hispanic." Gibson later claimed: "To put it bluntly, we need more babies." Then, referring to Russia's projected decline in population, Gibson claimed: "So far, we are doing our part here in America but Hispanics can't carry the whole load. The rest of you, get busy. Make babies, or put another way -- a slogan for our times: 'procreation not recreation'."

40. Many have organized patrols that go out after hours.
Some just walk the streets, others drive the streets in groups of 2 to 3.

Do you have a problem with citizens reporting criminal activity?

Since i live about 15 miles out of town, we have no organized neighborhood watch. But i can assure you, what neighbors i do have, keep a close eye on any suspicious activity.

being aware and looking for trouble. With a nice side of hate speech.

When I lived in the Haight, some of my neighbors used to walk the neighborhood together. But, they were trying for visibility, not looking to identify criminals. My husband and I keep an eye out in our neighborhood, too. But we don't patrol the borders looking for people who might or might not be breaking the law.

And we certainly don't hold racist rallies. :)

Hal Netkin arrested for using car to trample 2 demonstrators

by
Ernesto Cienfuegos
La Voz de Aztlan

Two members of La Alianza Indigena trampled by Hal NetkinGarden Grove, Alta California - May 26, 2005 (ACN) The Minutemen vigilantes have committed an ugly act of violence. It happened last night at a gathering in Garden Grove where the Minutemen vigilante James Gilchrist was scheduled to speak. About 380 Mexican-Americans and other Latinos, primarily from La Alianza Indigena, had gathered outside the Woman's Civic Club of Garden Grove at 9501 Chapman Avenue to protest the upcoming vigilante operations along the Mexico/California border. When the meeting ended and as the vigilantes were leaving the parking lot, one well known bigot in Los Angeles, Hal Netkin, purposely used his car as a lethal weapon and ran down two Mexican-American protestors, one a young girl. The two were rushed to the emergency hospital. Hal Netkin was promptly handcuffed and jailed.

57. Only if your choice of who you ban is racist
Our current immigration laws are indeed racist. Europeans are held to a different standard than Hispanics. I work with a girl who just became a citizen after only a 3 year wait. She is from The Czech Republic. I also know Hispanics from Central America who are legal immigrants and have been waiting for over 10 years to become citizens.

Boston is brimming with illegal immigrants from Ireland. Yet, we don't hear anyone complaining that they are trespassers.

So yes, those of us who defend the Hispanic immigrants are crying racism. We DO have facts to support that claim.

8. The only difference between a legal and illegal immigrant is
paperwork. That's what these xenophobes' arguments boil down to: illegals failed to submit the proper paperwork (in triplicate) and supplicate themselves to the massive US bureaucracy.

They're nothing but racist fucking assholes, and I for one, as an American servicemember will be happy to deport their sorry asses.

9. It's not really a paperwork issue
Almost all of the illegals are illegals not because they failed to submit the proper paperwork but because they don't qualify to get into the country during their lifetimes based on current immigration laws.

I'm convinced it's kept that way by the big companies that like to hire them and hold the hammer of deportation over their heads if they bitch too much.

13. Absolutely. The "business" wing of the GOP has...
absolutely no desire to fix immigration. It's socially sanctioned slave-labor. One of the few pleasures of this issue is watching the GOP plutocrats sweat out trying to placate their xenophobic base (e.g. minutemen), while not actually fixing the problem. I hope they choke on their own little wedge issue.

Edited on Fri May-12-06 04:55 PM by IanDB1
We destabilize their governments, build sweatshops, pollute their air and water, fund and train death squads... and then have the nerve to complain when they come HERE?

Why not leave the American-owned sweatshop where they were making $0.30 an hour in their own country, and go to America and make $3.00 per hour working illegally for the same company?

a legal immigrant is entitled to minimum wage and basic workers rights. The GOP "ownership society" can pay illegals any crappy wage they want, with no benefits, safety regs, etc.

24. Well, let's screen immigrants & give them physicals.
Then let them in. That's the way they did it in the old days. A physical, an interview, and "Welcome to the USA."

Maybe not so welcome--there was plenty of xenophobia back then, too. But it was far easier to become a legal resident. No immigration lawyers were getting rich.

I used to work for a publishing company that produced a couple of periodicals on Immigration Law, in the fulfillment dept. We did other legal stuff too, that attracted various scumbag lawyers, but the Immigration Lawyers were the biggest liars and crooks of them all, not paying their bills, lying to me about their signature on the order forms ("I did not order that!" "Oh yeah?, you're not returning them either I see!"). There was even one jerk who had the nerve to come in to see me personally and give me a rubber check!
"Honorable Profession" my ass!
Oh yeah, there was a certain congressman's ex wife who used to always call me up and be a big pain in the ass, I always wanted to ask her about the time she threw his clothes out on the front lawn.

16. Exactly
Skilled workers come here on H1B and earn 30% less then their college educated counter parts. If they ask for a raise the company fires them and almost automatically their visa is revoked.

Unskilled come here illegaly and magicaly once again their wages are 30 - 40% less then simuliar paid positions for American workers. Once again employers have the ability to have them deported

Then take into consideration Illegal Immigrants have been used to suppress working american wages. It now takes 2 incomes in 2006 to earn the same buying power of 1 income in 1970.

Even if all of those immigrants were illegal, they STILL would want them gone, because they are Mexican. And Mexican illegal immigrants make up about half, so why no concern about the other half? Illegal immigrant does not equal "Mexican".
