Protesters Jeer President Bush in London
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 8:32 a.m. ET
LONDON (AP) -- So far, President Bush hasn't heard the hecklers. Fewer than 100 anti-war protesters were standing outside Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night as Bush and his entourage arrived in two helicopters. The president and wife Laura landed deep inside the walled-off estate in central London, far beyond earshot of a few dozen stalwarts shouting ``Bush go home!'' and other invectives.<snip>

On Wednesday, Bush is to meet British veterans of the Iraq invasion and dine with Queen Elizabeth II and many dignitaries at a palace banquet. Anti-Bush protesters are planning a few small rallies, including one outside the heavily guarded U.S. Embassy, in support of al-Qaida and Taliban terrorist suspects detained without trial in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The real test of anti-Bush sentiment comes Thursday. The Stop the War Coalition expects 100,000 to march past Parliament and the nearby Downing Street office of Prime Minister Tony Blair, Bush's major ally in the troubled occupation of Iraq.<snip>

Madeline Kekwick, 73, rued the amount of money being spent in Iraq when people's needs remained great at home. “We pensioners don't get 100 pounds (about $150) a week,” she said, “and they're spending millions on the war.”<snip>

1. Pix from the emperor's visit... thanks, BBC!

President Bush made a dramatic arrival in his heavily-armoured Cadillac deVille

He arrived to all the pageantry of a state visit at Buckingham Palace
(hmmmm, kinda reminds ya of that helicopter exit..)

The US national anthem was played at the beginning of the proceedings

The Queen and President Bush stood silently as the anthem was played

The Queen and President Bush spoke to a number of politicians and dignitaries

President Bush joined Prince Philip for an inspection of the guards

The Queen then escorted Mr Bush on a private viewing of the Royal Collection

Her Majesty does NOT look happy in any of these photos....

They are sponges.

Bush is pretending to have half a brain and using it to look interested in something.

It is all so pretentious and foolish. Who do they think they are kidding.

I should say so. As far as I can recall Clinton was always treated to smiling crowds and waving flags.

But then again, he didn't hide away behind snipers and miniguns.

A lot of the protesters I saw interviewed today made a point of saying that they weren't Anti-American, merely anti-Bush.

22. Yup, she did
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 04:55 PM by Marianne
and here is what she wore to the formal dinner. Once again, her gown is too tight--she is bulging at the midriff and the bustline is meeting the waist. She should never be wearing tight fitting, figure deliniation clothing. This gown is entirely too little girlish, too fussy and entirely too amateurish looking, as if if was her first completed project in her home sewing class--what are those kick pleats doing--does she fantasize that she is a Flamenco dancer? --Her stomach is bulging out! She has only emphasized her full, mature woman, bulging figure by choosing this cutesy kick pleat stuff in the front---looks also like a mix of velvet and taffeta--dear heavens--that further points out her less than good points by making a distinction between the bulges on the top with the bulges on the bottom-- is she competing with the Queen for who can wear the heaviest diamond necklace? Hers looks like the chandelier--the Queen, well everyone knows the Queen gets to wear the crown jewels and diamond tiara. She could take some lessons from the Queen--instead of standing there with her arms hanging down, she could gently cross them in front--as it is, she and the white gloves remind me of mickey mouse.

And George is wearing pantaloons. This is the second -photo I have seen of him where his pants are dragging and bulging out on top of his shoes. Compare with the nice cut on the Prince.

white shoes and panty hose--and George in pantaloons

Her expression says it all. This woman is used to the company of people of education and discernment, of culture, of those highly involved in the world community. W has already admitted that he doesn't even read a newspaper.

Hers is the country that produced Shakespeare and Churchill. He relishes the "ranch" in Crawford, Texas.

Add to this the factor that this man-of-no-refinement, whom she must entertain with all deference due a head of state, tried to come into her country and virtually run it in advance of his visit, and you have the makings of one hugely unhappy Royal.

P.S. - And it's costing her country a bundle to entertain them in the manner to which they would like to become accustomed. All the while, her PM's ratings are in a downward spiral. Not much to smile about, is there, Ma'am?

30. I was just coming here to post that, PaDUer!!!
They showed the crowd scuffling with the police. The crowd outside Buckingham Palace was described as "loud, but raucous." The reporter mentioned that the crowd will swell by "tens of thousands" tomorrow, and that the images would likely "soften the glow of the President's visit."

Loved the shot of the protestor dressed like Bush, carrying an "I Heart War" sign. They showed another protestor being dragged away by police.

An amazing scene...

It's sort of the same thing.
Is that the *Queen's English*? :)

Anyway, glad (and amazed) it's getting some coverage.
But suspicious that it's just a set up to dismiss
tomorrow's crowds as disappointing or sparse...
I don't think the lapdog press has turned on their

take a close look. Doesn't he look completely out of it? Notice the vacant, 2-mile stare as he stands next to the Queen. And on photo #3 where he's getting out of his limo, he looks drunk. His hair is scruffy and he almost appears to have trouble getting out of the car.

And someone else noticed the queen. She doesn't smile on 1 single photo. Especially on Photo #5, you can see a BIG frown.

Methinks the Royal House of Windsor was badgered for this "event" by Karl Rove.

36. why bush & queenie look constipated
Dubya looks silly cuz:
1) the time change and jet lag have played havoc with his nap time.
2) he doesn't give a rat's patootie about history or culture ... so why should he look intereted while the queen shows him the "royal collection"?

Queenie looks constipated cuz:

The Bushes and the Windsors are distantly related. George has bragged about this before -- years ago, to journalists who pissed him off, I believe. So anyhoo ... the Queen is disgusted to realize that this vacant-headed moron is her distant cousin!

39. bush's peerage
According to an old Reuters story citing Burke's Peerage:

"(George W.) Bush is closely related to every European monarch on and off the throne -- including the King of Albania -- and has kinship with every member of Britain's royal family, the House of Windsor.
He is a 13th cousin of Britain's Queen Mother, and of her daughter Queen Elizabeth and is a 13th cousin once removed of the heir to the throne, Prince Charles.
Bush's family tree can be documented as far back as the early 15th century.
He has a direct descent from Henry III and from Henry VIII's sister Mary Tudor, who was also the wife of Louis XI of France. He is also descended from Charles II of England."

I wouldn't smile, either, in this man's presence, if I were his 13th cousin!

But, anyway ... What an appalling nest of royal parasites! Throw 'em all out -- the Windsors and their American Cousin! Paging Madame Defarge!
