WTC Memorial Finalists Unveiled
"In the heart of Lower Manhattan, officials in charge of rebuilding the World Trade Center site unveiled the eight finalists vying to pay tribute to the 2,892 victims of the Sept. 11 disaster.

"Their vocabularies are elemental," John Whithead, former head of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. said of the designers. "Their designs draw on elements from light, water, earth and life itself."

The memorial designs varied widely with some containing reflecting pools and circles of light while others plan to hold gardens and connections to the footprints of the North and South Towers. But all include special places for family members of the victims of the terrorist attacks and all have special housing for unidentified remains..."

1. Isn't the GOP CONvention enough of a Memorial?
9/11 was Christmas for General Rove.

10. If you don't like the commentary here at DU...
...perhaps you'll find more kindred spirits at Free Republic.

Don't bother to say goodbye, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

12. Maybe you ought to check a few of mobuto's posts before...
...slamming me.

I certainly see the irony in your remarks as well.

13. One more comment, then I'm done. Onehandle is not the one who...
...stated publicly soon after 9/11 that he had "won the trifecta", is he?

How could onehandle's post even remotely approach the tastelessness of THAT particular remark?

2. how about a nice plaque or something? . . .
I don't know . . . this all seems so grandiose and overblown somehow . . . I understand the need of the families to have some kind of memorial to their loved ones, but these proposals rival the Taj Mahal . . . wouldn't something a little more discreet be more appropriate? . . . just wonderin' . . .
