Pataki's Approval Ratings Remain Dim

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A statewide poll released today shows Governor Pataki's approval rating at an all-time low among New York voters. And 71% of Republican voters told the pollsters they don't want their party to nominate Pataki in the 2008 presidential race.

That's the second survey in less than a week with roughly the same results.

Pataki said in July that he would not seek re-election. But he's eyeing a run for the White House.

The latest poll from the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute showed his approval rating at 33%, down from 45% in March. The polling took place from May 8th to 14th after his bruising budget battle with the state Legislature.
