Iraq doctor brings evidence of US napalm at Fallujah
Iraq doctor brings evidence of US napalm at Fallujah
By Andra Jackson
May 23, 2006

EVIDENCE to support controversial claims that napalm has been used by US forces in Iraq has been brought to Australia by an Iraqi doctor.

Dr Salam Ismael, of the Baghdad-based group Doctors for Iraq, said the evidence pointed to the use of napalm on civilians during the second siege of Fallujah in November 2004.

It is contained in film and photographs that doctors took of bodies they collected when they were finally allowed to enter the city after being barred for three days of the military operation.

"We said that napalm had been used, because napalm is a bomb which is a fuel bomb that burns only on the exposed part of the body, so that the clothes will not be affected," Dr Ismael said from Perth at the start of a speaking tour.

Doctors For Iraq, an independent group founded in 2003, is calling for an international investigation that would allow the bodies to be exhumed for autopsies "because we want to know the truth of what happened".

3. I don't make the rules. That's the way LBN works.
Besides, there's replies a-plenty and more learnin' to be had if you're really interested, at the link I so thoughtfully provided.

10. Didn't mean anything by it.
I check first, too, and it still happens now and then.

Thanks for not taking it the wrong way!

11. That's a GD post, not an LBN post.
This is the first time it's been posted in LBN

14. You're quite right. And that GD story is more than 12 hours old.
Too old to be posted in LBN, according to rules I didn't write.

16. That's what I was thinking too.
You got your gasoline that is the same consistency as jello. You set that on fire and throw it on your favorite blue jeans. Trust me, you're gonna need a new pair of jeans.

5. I thought it was white phosphorus
I know, distinction with little, if any difference, but it wasn't actual napalm, from every report I have read. They certainly MISUSED the WP, which is supposed to light up an area, not be used as an offensive weapon.

It's no different, that said, than saying Baby needs a drink, and giving the kid ammonia in his bottle instead of formula.

7. It was WP. I have seen them both used up-close and personal
and have used WP.

WP likes to have water to burn. That is why it does such horrific things to flesh.

It will burn wet clothing.

8. My only gripe, Tom, is that if the NAPALM meme is tossed around
it is all too easy to debunk. I agree, it is hideous shit. Not right. Against Geneva, certainly, when used in the manner discussed.

But we know how the right play the game. NAPALM??? Bullshit!!! They're all LIARS!!! They NEVER used "NAPALM!"

So, ya put bleach in the baby bottle, or ammonia, the kid is still in serious trouble. But the right loves to seize on details to debunk and make their tired ass points. And the ugly truth of the offense gets lost in all the posturing...

12. I have heard that "napalm" has been reformulated to get around
the laws. Those regs banned the specific formulation (that's the only way the U.S. would sign off), so the formula was changed.

And you can bet your butt we are using it.

And you are completely correct. Semantic hairsplitting.

"Hey!, it was just some styrofoam ice chests we put in a drum of gasoline!", how were we to know it would do that terrible stuff?

19. Precisely wrong.
WP requires oxygen to burn. Put it on a dry surface, and it'll start smoking.

It's usually stored under lightweight organic liquids, simply because WP floats on water. If you tie a string around it and submerge it in water, it'll be quite safe. Yeah, there's a little oxygen dissolved in the water, but that'll be consumed quickly and safely enough.

The combustion product is released as a white powder. It's relatively innocuous, dry. Mix it with water, and you get phosphoric acid. It's a nasty acid, but if you rinse it off quickly enough it's not like it eats through skin in the few minutes it takes to rise it or wipe it off, at least under most conditions. It's in most cola drinks. If you're sweating, the phosphorous oxide will react as much with the moisture in your clothing as the moisture in your throat, eyes, nose, and armpit.

6. Thank you....whether its LBN, or yesterday's news , I don't care
the more we know about this war, the more we understand how unjust this war was, and still is, and therefore the sooner we bring the troops home.

US Army Admits Use of White Phosphorus as Weapon
by Steven D
Wed Nov 09, 2005 at 01:48:58 PM PDT

(From the diaries. Let's see them deny this shit now -- kos)

That's right. Not from Al Jazheera, or Al Arabiya, but the US fucking Army, in their very own publication, from the (WARNING: pdf file) March edition of Field Artillery Magazine in an article entitled "The Fight for Fallujah":

"WP proved to be an effective and versatile munition. We used it for screening missions at two breeches and, later in the fight, as a potent psychological weapon against the insurgents in trench lines and spider holes when we could not get effects on them with HE. We fired 'shake and bake' missions at the insurgents, using WP to flush them out and HE to take them out."

* Steven D's diary :: ::
*

In other words the claim by the US Government that White Phosphorus was used only for illumination at Fallujah had been pre-emptively debunked by the Army. Indeed, the article goes on to make clear that soldiers would have liked to have saved more WP rounds to use for "lethal missions."

17. I hope people working for Bush will not be able to get close enough to
this man to kill him from now on. The world needs to know what he has to say.

Thank you, Barrett808, for posting this information. We need to know as much as possible.
