Ethanol plant being built in Illinois

Carroll County Ethanol LLC has awarded two contracts for engineering on the first of three ethanol production facilities to be built in northwestern Illinois.

The first 100-million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant will be built on the Mississippi River, 140 miles west of Chicago, between Savanna and Thompson, Ill., CCE said Tuesday

3. This will be wonderful for the area.
It is very economically depressed. Savanna is right on the Mississippi River. A huge new prison was built at Thompson. The town revamped their water system to accommodate the prison. The prison never opened.

The area is beautiful, but it is losing population and closing schools. Businesses are folding. I hope this gives them new life.

5. i just wish producing ethanol didn't create so much greenhouse gas

it's incredibly inefficient. what are they going to burn to operate the still? coal?
