BREAKING SKY NEWS: WHITEHOUSE EVACUATED
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 09:31 AM by It was not a pretzel
WTF is going on today? No more info, sorry.

Could be a anything from a gas leak to Karl Rove ploy to get attention away from the protests.

33. I hope you're right
but the no fly zone around the White House is very small. Commerical planes landing or taking off from National (DCA) are just a couple miles - maybe a minute at most - away. I'm not sure what kind of fighter cover you could scramble in under a minute. Its kind of scary actually.

Even if a Secret Service agent managed to hit a plane with a stinger as it came in, momentum would still carry it towards the White House.

If there is another attack on the U.S. on AWOL's watch it will be the final nail in his re-election coffin.

28. Unfortunately, I suspect such a thing would only boost his numbers
with everybody suddenly blathering that "we have to stand behind Our President!" I'd bet most of the sheeple out there would NOT make the connection you and I would. They'd write him another stirring speech to make about how "they hate us for our freedoms" - which NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE has ever, EVER called him on and fully analyzed and objectively picked apart in search of fact - and everybody'd be falling all over themselves drooling about him. And we'd be finished.

29. SCARE RESOLVED: BBC
'Aircraft' scare at White House

Staff were briefly evacuated from the White House in Washington on Thursday after an aircraft strayed close to it, US officials say.
But a US aviation official later said the alarm was caused by a "blip" on a radar screen, rather than a plane.
The emergency is now said to be over and staff have been told it is safe to return to work. The incident follows a similar alert 10 days ago when two F-15 fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a plane.

US President George W Bush, who has his office and residence at the White House, is currently on a state visit to the UK.

32. OK call me a skeptic
but aren't we having a lot of these 'incidents' lately (especially since this was a blit not a plane) maybe to make it look like our fearless leader is well, fearless, especially since he isn't there and doesn't have to evacuate. Could this be the replacement to keep fear at the forefront without raising a color alert? Watching this play out will tell....

36. No, I think everybody's antsy
If someone did try to fly a plane into the White House, from some directions they'd have only a minute or two to respond. So naturally they're a little antsy. You don't have time to double check a radar in 60 seconds.
