Cross-dressing teen barred from senior prom
GARY, Ind. -- The prom ticket was in hand: $85. The fuschia, slinky prom dress and strappy heels were ready. The whole week of giddy anticipation and pampering -- more than $200 worth of a manicure, pedicure and hair set -- was set to culminate with the grand walk into the glam ball.

But when Kevin Logan, a transgender and gay student at Gary’s West Side High School, arrived last Friday at Avalon Manor in Hobart for his prom, he was banned by Principal Diane Rouse.

That ban, according to Indiana Civil Liberties Union legal director Ken Falk, violates the First Amendment. The Logan family is mulling both a complaint with the ICLU and possible litigation.

“When I tried to walk in, she asked me where am I going. She said, 'You’re not walking in here today,’ ” Logan, 18, said. “Ms. Rouse said I wasn’t allowed to have on a dress,” he said Tuesday as he and his mother, Donnetta Logan, were at West Side to seek a ticket refund.

1. Can go to class as a girl all year
but can't go to the prom dressed as a girl? What a load of crap.

If it was the only time the kid had dressed as a girl I might understand. But after dressing that way for an entire school year? WTF.

2. I hope they sue the bejaysus out of that bitch principal!
I am so sick of this sort of discrimination! Props to the student and his Mom for at least trying to make it a good time for the kid. What the hell is the problem? They couldn't accomodate this?

3. How much do you wanna bet that
Principal Diane Rouse is a long-time registered Republican who thinks that the Chimp In Charge is "a great and honorable man"? What...no takers?

But West Side students reported that a girl was allowed to attend the prom in a tuxedo.

They're toast.

5. "Oh...we can't have someone who is 'different' at our prom. What
will people think?"

Ignorant f*cking idiots.

All men/women are created equal in this country unless you are gay. If you are gay or transgendered, then you are a second class citizen.

They are only clothes, people...what's the big deal?

I hope this family sues the shit out of this school.

8. it's a different article isn't it?
the wording is different -- same event.

primarily -- in this article logan is identified as both transgendered and gay -- and only indentified as gay in the other article.
