Date for nuclear talks uncertain

The assistant U.S. secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, James Kelly, met South Korean officials Thursday as part of a renewed effort to resume negotiations with North Korea in the stalemate over its nuclear weapons program.
.
Kelly's visit to South Korea concludes an Asian tour that included Japan and China and that was perceived as a precursor to a fresh round of six-nation talks that could take place next month.
.
Kelly said the prospect of a second round of talks before the end of the year was still uncertain.
.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry echoed that sentiment, saying a date had not been set. But opinions appeared to be narrowing, favoring a mid-December date, the ministry said.
