JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- The South African government condemned the terrorist attacks in Turkey on Thursday, describing the action as the "continued callous murder of innocent civilians."

At least 27 people were killed and 450 were injured in suicide bomb attacks on the British consulate and the British-owned HSBC bank in Istanbul earlier in the day.

The South African Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement "the increasing spate of terrorist attacks against civilians demands that the international community must address the issue of terrorism in its entirety including conditions that nurture and/or provide fertile breeding grounds for terrorism to flourish, including poverty and underdevelopment ..."

"We are of the conviction that both the Turkish government and people will ensure those responsible face the full might of the law," said the statement.
The South African government also extended its condolences to its Turkish counterpart and the bereaved families, and wished the injured a speedy recovery, the statement said. Enditem
