Offensive Against Iraqi Insurgents Dramatically Reduces Attacks on US Sold
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=4D89E17B-212F-4484-B94B5928F95B1F08

<snip>
A senior U.S. military commander in Iraq says a new offensive against anti-coalition insurgent forces in and around Baghdad has resulted in a dramatic reduction in attacks on American soldiers.
Brigadier General Martin Dempsey says insurgent attacks on coalition troops are down 70 percent since Operation Iron Hammer began 12 days ago.

Speaking to reporters in Baghdad and at the Pentagon, General Dempsey says he wants to cut the number to zero and demonstrate to anti-coalition forces that they cannot operate with impunity in the Iraqi capital.

"What I want to make sure the enemy knows is that there is no sanctuary in Baghdad," he said.

2. Laughable....
any resistance fighter knows to lay low while the heat is on. The Iraqis have been there for thousands of years. Time is on their side. How long can the USA keep up the heat?

I am for a peaceful, democratic Iraq! I just don't believe that it is possible to BOMB the Iraqis into peace. This is insane!

20. Laughable indeed
Haven't all of you heard the news? The troops are pulling out of Baghdad and Falluja. The commander of 82nd airborn, Swannack I believe told the reporters that his division is relocating to the border with Syria. So there is no one to attack in Falluja anymore.
The decrease in attacks is not because of pacification of the rebels but because there are no targets to attack, Baghdad garrison has been also reduced in recent weeks.

3. I hope they know what they're talking about.
They're going to look awfully stupid if Iraqi freedom fighters suddenly shoot down three helicopters and trash a couple tanks.

But then, this administration has plenty of experience when it comes to looking foolish.

6. Blowing up all those empty buildings really helped
Any good insurgent knows you don't stick your head up when the occupation force has it's mallet out.

Operation Eisenhammer will end and the attacks will step up again.

And they will be more sophisticated and more deadly. Just as the Russians found out in Afghanistan.

8.  Personally - I think that General Dempsey must be an Idiot !!

. . From the Article:

"I want the enemy to know that although I am on his home turf, he is not going to use that to his advantage," said Gen. Dempsey.

The General tells reporters the fight against anti-coalition forces is what he terms a fight for intelligence. He says he has no need of additional soldiers."

/snip/

"although I am on his home turf, he is not going to use that to his advantage,"

Right ! heck, even neghbourhood bullies know that people have an advantage on their own turf !

And if/when the Iraqis, or whomever, keep "picking off" the young Americans in Iraq,

sooner or later they will have to be "replaced" ??

And someone also said the Iraqis are laying low

- well, sort of

- you can bet they didn't all just say "oh gee - let's give up"

- they are regrouping, and planning WORSE things -

Count on it

There are tens of thousands in Iraq with lost and wounded relatives

And Middle Easterners will be slow to forget

(sigh)

9. "I am on his home turf"
Did General Dopey conclude with "US Military is in the hizzouse!"?

It's rather insulting to think that a man this stupid became a general in the Army, but the evidence is pretty plainly there in his comments. Unless, of course, he isn't really that stupid, but he's counting on the people he's "defending" to be that stupid. Which is even more insulting.

11. How many bombs ya got?
Cause once you finish your mini-shock and awe campaign, you're gonna see the numbers jump up once again. Hell, considering all the potential civilian casualties from the bombings and shoot-to-kill orders now issued, the resistance will more than likely come out of this stronger than before. Smart, real smart. Can we afford to maintain this current pace for months, or even years on end?

17. Based on their other policies
that's probably what they're thinking. For example, the Healthy Forests Initiative promotes cutting down trees to save forests.

Plus, think how much money the Carlyle Group and all of their corporate buddies stand to make on a 24/7 bombing campaign.

<The General tells reporters the fight against anti-coalition forces is what he terms a fight for intelligence.>

The outcome is obvious with the fraudulent and stupid commitment to this conflict.
