Paulson: The Global Warming Believer Nominated For Bush's Cabinet
WASHINGTON (AP) Henry Paulson may find the tightrope he'll be walking as President Bush's Treasury secretary will span a wider gulf than in his current twin jobs as chairman of Goldman Sachs and The Nature Conservancy. Both the Wall Street powerhouse and the world's richest environmental group look at global warming as a dire threat requiring government-mandated reductions in carbon dioxide and other gases that trap heat in the atmosphere like a greenhouse. Bush doesn't.

1. Interesting...
Maybe when Bush is burning in the hell-on-earth that he hath created, he might have second thoughts?

Nah, he'll just bunk up with the endtimers and call it a day :eyes:

2. Wonder how he slipped through... and how long he will last.

It seems possible he might actually be competent and sane; not a good fit for this administration. Prob'ly will get the sack before long, like one of his predecessors, Paul O'Neill.

3. Article in the Washington Post yesterday about him...
his wife is an environmentalist, and they are both practicing Christian Scientists. They sound like somewhat eccentric people, not your typical Wall Street types.

Very interesting indeed.

4. I wonder if he posts here - under a strange, intriguing name?
And we just don't know it.

6. I wonder if he's related to Pat Paulsen, former presidential candidate?
His campaign website is still up.

14. Pat Paulsen
Actually, it's not still up. His "campaign" was in the late 60's; waaay before the existence of the world wide web. The campaign was, I believe, technically official but of course it was meant to be a big joke and no one took it seriously. I remember watching him on the "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour". The show was canceled because of it's political stances (this was during the Vietnam war). If I recall correctly, he also had his own 1/2 hour comedy show for a short period but it had to be canceled because of his Presidential candidacy due to equal time laws.

the issue with Al Gore on the cover.

He's actually done some good things.

Maybe the financial types are sick of BushCo bullshit and want someone competent for a change?

11. It's not like he's coming on as Interior Secretary
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 02:06 AM by 0rganism
now THAT would be mindblowing

This is what, Treasury Secretary #3? Sure would suck to be blamed for bushco's financial irresponsibility and propensity for looting the nation's wealth on behalf of the elite. Maybe they're setting Paulson up to fall on his sword for Emperor Dubya Gaius Caesar Bush.

There's an angle. Not sure what it is quite yet, but I know it's there.

12. I'm thinking the same thing...
there was a reason he was installed in the job, what forces were behind it, I don't know.

It's hard to say whether Chimpy was forced to hire him, or he was forced to take it, or both, but there is way more to this than meets the eye.
