GOP finds nothing funny about Bush impersonator (hired by Dem Party Chair)
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 08:45 AM by Bozita
"Pyramid" is the nickname for the Amway heir. I love it!

And DeVos' campaign chairman David Brandon is the CEO of ... get this ... Domino's Pizza. No joke.

GOP finds nothing funny about Bush impersonator

BY CHRIS CHRISTOFF and KATHLEEN GRAY

June 2, 2006

MACKINAC ISLAND -- What's an election year without a little campaign silliness?

A President George W. Bush impersonator entertained onlookers on the Grand Hotel porch Thursday during the Detroit Regional Chamber's policy conference.

He poked fun at Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos with assorted malapropisms, hokey jokes and an "endorsement" of DeVos. Plus, he bore a striking resemblance to the prez.

The brief show was courtesy of state Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer. Among the zingers was an allusion to DeVos' leading a 2000 school voucher ballot issue that was defeated and his family ties to the Amway Corp.

1. The Republicans don't like this...
...because humor really is the best way to show the absurdity and outrageousness of this administration.

Let's face it. The Republicans have mastered spin and verbal manipulation. They've managed to convince America that dirty water, dirty air, corporate welfare, torture, spying, crippling debt and other crimes are all part of the American dream. They've positioned a lie-based, miserable failure of a war--as a gleaming example of freedom.

After several years in power--this administration has grown into a farce. I say...bring on the humor. We need to fight them with humor even more. Humor is a great way of poking a hole in the bubble of denial in which America has been sleeping.

No wonder the Republicans are upset by this. They know damn well that using humor to spotlight their over-the-top, criminal behavior--is a threat to their house of cards.

Bring on the comedians!

3. Bush Comedy
If the Republicans don't want comics to make fun of the Prez, they shouldn't nominate such an easy target. This administration just presents too many irresistible opportunities. It is almost entrapment.

8. Or his mocking of Tammy Faye Baker...
This is neo-Con fascist humor...or rather an attempt at it. Neo-Con fascists are not very funny...

Reminds me of the Monty Python's skit about how Hitler tried humor after the allies discovered the world's funniest joke and used it as a secret weapon: *

Hitler: I cut off my dog's nose
Stormtrooper: How does he smell?
Hitler: Awful!

________
*From "And now for something completely different." The world's funniest joke was written by an obscure British comedy writer; it causes the person who hears it to die laughing. British intelligence then uses the joke in combat with the Germans. Because British troops yell out the joke in German, it doesn't affect them, however, it has devastating results on German troops who hear it... Very funny skit--one of their best.

19. You're probably right...it's been awhile since I saw the movie
It would make sense...less gruesome.

Actually, I saw the film in Zurich, Switzerland. In English with German subtitles, except one scene as described here: As you know, Monty Python used actual documentary footage of Hitler addressing a rally. I believe it was from "Triumph of the Will." Since it is a good bet that English-speaking countries speak little German, the Python guys showed the documentary footage and added the nonsensical English subtitles under what was spoken (I've seen "Triumph of the Will"--I believe it was some part of the rally in which Hitler asks from where the followers come. Several responses indicate from all over German in an attempt to show how Germany is unified under Hitler. Nice piece of propaganda. Anyway, the effect is Hitler says something, Stormtrooper says something, then Hitler says something). The interesting thing is that the Swiss cut this scene from the Zurich showing. I suppose it would not be as funny if the audience actually understood what was being said on the film, and did not pay attention to the funny "translations" placed by Monty Python.

6. Just saw Devos ad on TV, he brags that he helped saved a 100 jobs from
leaving the state. He forgot to mention that michigans losing over 1000 jobs every year due to puke out sourcing bonuses. Right after his ad it was reported that 500 jobs were being discontinued due to down sizing in south west michigan.

7. The Police Officers Association endorsed DeVos?
That's not funny. The fact that we hired some impersonator to get in a few zingers is all well and good, but that little fact kind of gives them the last laugh here I think.

These are the same assholes who always spout off about Democrats not having a sense of humor? Look in the mirror blowhards.

22. I worked there. Trust me-
it IS crap.

Domino's Pizza is a scam. You should have seen the place we worked in. The front was alright, but the back was practically bare. There is NO depth to the product or environment, at all.

I got the feeling that a couple guys got together and said, "How can we go door-to-door and get people to give us their money, but not really put any effort into creating a good product?"

They have contests to see how many different "foods" people can make with the same three ingredients- dough, cheese and sauce.

It's just ridiculous.
