Congressional negotiators agree on forest timber plan

<snip>
WASHINGTON – Congressional negotiators have agreed on a plan they said will help prevent Western wildfires by making it easier to remove brittle and dying trees from 20 million acres of federal forest land.

The plan, which the House and Senate could vote on as early as Friday, is opposed by environmentalists who claimed it would let timber companies cut down large trees deep in the forest, but do little to clear fire-prone areas close to homes.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat who helped broker a deal on the plan, said approval of the legislation "would be a major step... toward ensuring that tragedies like the wildfires in my state last month do not strike other communities again and again and again."

"We must do everything we can to avert such a catastrophe in the future," she said

6. Yup, another sellout.
Looks like the energy sham is going through and probably the bill to gut Medicare then Social Security, now this. Hate to say it, but the Greens are starting to look better and better. We desperately NEED an opposition party in this Country!

4. I abandoned DiFi when she betrayed her constituency...
...and voted to support the invasion of Iraq. This latest betrayal is just more icing on the cake.

2. Baucus disappoints again.
As someone who was directly impacted by forest fire this summer, I cannot express the depth of my disappointment in Max Baucus (D-MT) for supporting, and actually helping to craft this 'compromise'.

Please, Max, please retire so we can run a Democrat who will stand for principle in your place.
