AP: Homeland Security Ranks Nation's Capital as Low Risk of Terror Attack
ABC 7 News/AP: DHS Ranks District as Low Risk of Terror Attack
Friday June 02, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) - You might think of the District as a likely target for a terrorist attack, but now the Department of Homeland Security ranks it as one of the cities at lowest risk.

The decision will cost the city almost $5 million in anti-terror funds. That's on top of a reduction of $30.5 million for the D.C. region announced earlier this week in program that funds anti-terror efforts in urban areas.

Homeland Security officials say the District has far fewer potential targets than places like California.

Although the District is home to the White House, the Capitol, FBI headquarters and national monuments, it received a smaller state grant than Montana, Hawaii, Utah and Rhode Island....

5. All the more reason to suspect LIHOP
or worse. Suddenly, they're not worried? Didn't they just evacuate Senate Office Buildings a couple times LAST month? Somebody is pulling our collective legs....

8. I Agree
We are being fooled, big time. I only hope the conservative idiots figure it out. I mean, it is *so* obvious that the real terrorists are in the White House.

9. Silly you! They evacuated those buildings because they
didn't want the FBI caught rifling through Democratic senators' files again! x(

6. Kinda makes sense
They should have no problem saving the handful of people they actually need to save. Everyone and everything else can go up in flames, evidently.

7. Didn't they already screw DC for several million right after 9/11?
Or maybe they're trying to choke out DC's social programs because the local government isn't compliant enough.

11. I'd also like to add...
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:09 PM by TwoSparkles
...that this terror money, and the very PUBLIC way it was distributed is highly suspect.

New York's terror money was cut, but Omaha and cities in Tennessee saw increases.

Because these monies were distributed so publicly--it leads me to believe that the way they divided it up--is psy-op propaganda.

They're attempting to send a signal to the nation---NO PLACE IS SAFE! IF YOU LIVE IN A MID-SIZE NEBRASKA TOWN...UNSAFE!!!...IF YOU LIVE IN NASHVILLE...TERROR HAVEN!!!...IF YOU LIVE IN RURAL OHIO....DANGER!! DANGER!!!....YOU ARE ALL IN GRAVE DANGER... ...CARRY ON ABOUT YOUR DAILY EVENTS...BUT BE AFRAID...VERY AFRAID...NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE!

That's the overt message I'm seeing anyway...

13. DC votes overwhelmingly Dem. And they are being punished
because of this.

On another note, if Homeland Security really believed that the nation's capital was a low terror-strike risk, they'd have to be the absolute dumbest muh-fuhs on the planet.

23. This proves the BFEE is complicit in 9-11
If they really were worried about another terror attack, they'd be the first to protect their own sorry asses. But punishing their political opponents is more important than protecting them from their supposed mortal enemies.

24. This is the dumbest news I've heard all week.
I would argue it's the most asinine, incompetent decision of the week.
Is Homeland Security high on drugs? This is the kind of poor decision making one might expect from someone blasted out their mind on crack cocaine.

27. Want a real eye-opener?
The murder rate for Washington DC is 35.8 per 100,000 people. New York City is 7.0 per 100, 000 people. Yeah, I think that DC could use some funding to fight the terror of simply living there!
