PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Michael Berg, whose son Nick was beheaded in Iraq in 2004, said on Thursday he felt no sense of relief at the killing of the al Qaeda in Iraq leader blamed for his son's death.

Asked what would give him satisfaction, Berg, an anti-war activist and candidate for U.S. Congress, said: "The end of the war and getting rid of George Bush."

<snip>

In a telephone interview from his home in Wilmington, Delaware, the father said: "I have no sense of relief, just sadness that another human being had to die."

Berg, who is running as a Green Party candidate, has repeatedly blamed President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for his son's death.

<snip>

"As the poet John Donne said, any man's death diminishes me. It doesn't bring my son back, and this will just bring a new cycle of revenge killings," the father said.

2. Father of beheaded man blames Bush, not Zarqawi
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Michael Berg, whose son Nick was beheaded in Iraq in 2004, said on Thursday he felt no sense of relief at the killing of the al Qaeda leader in Iraq and blamed President Bush for his son's death.

Asked what would give him satisfaction, Berg, an anti-war activist and candidate for U.S. Congress, said, "The end of the war and getting rid of George Bush."

The United States said its aircraft killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the insurgent leader who masterminded the death of hundreds in suicide bombings and was blamed for the videotaped beheading of Nick Berg, a U.S. contractor, and other captives.

"I don't think that Zarqawi is himself responsible for the killings of hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq," Berg said in a combative television interview with the U.S. Fox News network. "I think George Bush is.

9. I watched his interview with Soledad
she is such a bush-apologist

He was blasting junior and his felonious administration - she kept trying to get him to admit that he was glad al-Zarqawi was dead - but he would have nothing ot do with it - kept saying that the deaths need to stop

He also said that junior was no better than Saddam - 30,000 deaths a year under Saddam - 50,000 under junior - what is the difference

He also referred to junior as King Bush of Iraq

11. FYI Michael Berg is running for US House in Delaware as a Green
And I, as one of the most devout democrats you'll ever find here in DU may support him since this years challenge to republican incumbant Mike Castle looks as lame as the last 5-6 who have run against him. DelDems have this thing about not challenging Mike (although we always have a challenger and even though the rest of the state is Blue and our democrat senators win by 65-70%, Castle still destroys the democrat nobody each election) with anything more than a weak no-name who doesn't do much to even campaign against Castle.

And unless this democrat actually shows a bit of challenge to Castle, I might actually vote for Michael Berg. We won't lose anything in Delaware but might have a shot of getting a very vocal anti-war representative in the house.

19. the long shot, like Gene McCarth & Impeaching Nixxon
Hi-
I'm Michael Berg's campaign manager and his friend from the anti-war movement.

It is encouraging to see folks who remain registered Democrats actually talking and acting like they are real progressives. I get so sick of the DLC types trying to "brand" any ol' Dem as a progressive, and I imagine that it irritates y'all too!

LynneSin is right- the apparent democatic nominee is another lawyer formerly of the incumbent Republican's law firm. He insults the Progressive Dems by saying he would support none of the anti-war resolutions introduced in the House so far, refuses to support Conyer's bill 676 and won't even support forming a committee to investigate whether Bush is technically impeachable.

He calls Michael Berg "irresponsible" for advocating an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. We call any other plan irresponsible because lives are lost with each delay-- I think the figure is something like one death every 12 minutes. The aftermath of our occupation was guaranteed by Bush when he sent our military to occupy Iraq.

Anyway, check us out- we are a long shot, but who would have predicted that Clean Gene MacCarthy would have knocked out the connsumate politician of the era, President Lyndon Baines Johnson? Because I was there, I can tell you that we were called crazies for advocating the impeachment of President Richard M. Nixon, but we ran his sorry butt out of town before he completed the second term he "won in a landslide."
Michael Berg for Congress
Thanks for listening!

13. I think Bush is too. He could have taken Zarqawi out in 2002 if he had not
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 04:43 PM by BrklynLiberal
been so determined to invade Iraq!!!!

<snip>
In June 2002, U.S. officials say intelligence had revealed that Zarqawi and members of al-Qaida had set up a weapons lab at Kirma, in northern Iraq, producing deadly ricin and cyanide.

The Pentagon quickly drafted plans to attack the camp with cruise missiles and airstrikes and sent it to the White House, where, according to U.S. government sources, the plan was debated to death in the National Security Council.

“Here we had targets, we had opportunities, we had a country willing to support casualties, or risk casualties after 9/11 and we still didn’t do it,” said Michael O’Hanlon, military analyst with the Brookings Institution.

Four months later, intelligence showed Zarqawi was planning to use ricin in terrorist attacks in Europe.

The Pentagon drew up a second strike plan, and the White House again killed it. By then the administration had set its course for war with Iraq.

“People were more obsessed with developing the coalition to overthrow Saddam than to execute the president’s policy of preemption against terrorists,” according to terrorism expert and former National Security Council member Roger Cressey.

In January 2003, the threat turned real. Police in London arrested six terror suspects and discovered a ricin lab connected to the camp in Iraq.

The Pentagon drew up still another attack plan, and for the third time, the National Security Council killed it.

Military officials insist their case for attacking Zarqawi’s operation was airtight, but the administration feared destroying the terrorist camp in Iraq could undercut its case for war against Saddam.

14. I'm a filmmaker who looked at the video on Nicks Beheading
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 05:11 PM by superconnected
and determined it's most likely a fake.

Among the things me and other filmmakers found,

-He was sitting in the same kind of chair as Lyndie was in the Abu Ghraib photos and the walls were the same.

-there was a cut when they were supposed to put the sword through the head and it switched to another angle where you couldn't see it happen.

-there was a few frames of men in army caps-which we didn't feel the iraqis would be wearing.

-there were very clean white tennyshoes on a guy in some frames.

-the time code was DIFFERENT between the shot before the sword through the neck and the shot after. Even if it was a 2 camera shoot where they'd cut in the 2nd cameras footage, it still didn't serve their purpose to make the cut to an angle where you could not see the blade going through the neck.

-very unlikely small amount of blood, no spurting blood

There were many more anomalys. All of these anyone could see by going through the video frame by frame.

-----

That video was examined by really strong fundie filmmakers who went into it believing the guys was being beheaded, and wanting to prove that to the liberals of the group - like me. They determined it was a fake, right along with the rest of the liberal filmmakers, on the site where we examined it.

18. There are lots of people who have taken this film apart
Here's a pretty compehensive list of the problems, along with some of the problems pointed out.

http://topplerummy.org/berg/

Nick Berg Video a False Flag Fake
48 Problems with the Video and Official Story

<snip>

26] 'Zarqawi' is wearing a large gold ring. Islam reportedly forbids men to wear gold jewelry. Even if he didn't care he'd have to know the Arab world would consider him a fraud.

27] The rifle is a Galil variant. This is an Israeli rifle and is considered to be unreliable. Arab militants wouldn't use them. The guns are all either Galils or Mac's.

28] Zarqawi is thought to be dead and is known to have an artificial leg. Clearly the man hacking off the head didn't. The CIA has previously reported both of these facts and has made no acknowledgement of, or explanation for, changing their minds.

29] Zarqawi is known to have a tattoo on the back of his left hand of three green dots. The man hacking off the head didn't have a tattoo on his hand.

30] All the men had nice WHITE hands. Except in the last 20-30 seconds when the face appears to have been digitally lightened, the hands are as white or whiter than Berg's skin. Arab terrorists don't have white hands. UPDATE, the last man has black hands, this is the very tall one who swaps in at the end to hold up the head.

15. John Gibson- Fox
Listened to John Gibson's XM radio show. He interviewed MB on the telephone and the man never backed down a minute on how he blames King Bush for the war and all the deaths of our soldiers and the thousands of innocent Iraqis. Gibson went NUTS after the interview, screaming and yelling. Said Berg should rot in jail. So much for freedom of speech anymore in this country. Criticize the King and you are a traitor.
