G.O.P. to Run an Ad for Bush on Terror Issue
get ready for some major propaganda. has anybody seen the ad yet?

NYTimes

WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 — After months of sustained attacks against President Bush in Democratic primary debates and commercials, the Republican Party is responding this week with its first advertisement of the presidential race, portraying Mr. Bush as fighting terrorism while his potential challengers try to undermine him with their sniping.

The new commercial gives the first hint of the themes Mr. Bush's campaign is likely to press in its early days. It shows Mr. Bush, during the last State of the Union address, warning of continued threats to the nation: "Our war against terror is a contest of will, in which perseverance is power," he says after the screen flashes the words, "Some are now attacking the president for attacking the terrorists."

By indirectly invoking the Sept. 11 attacks, the commercial plays to what White House officials have long contended is Mr. Bush's biggest political advantage: his initial handling of the aftermath of the attacks.

1. Here we go....
It will be:

"You are either with us or against us"

Dems need to ignore this shill jingoistic GOP fear mongering and attack Bush on the facts until everyone in this country understands that Bush mislead this country, blocked investigations into 911, sent the county into finacial ruin though poor fiscal management, pumped his cronies full of fat government contracts and has alienated our allies around the world.

I am not afraid of these types of commercials or the resulting atmosphere it will create. It will make the dittoheads spit and splutter with hate and intolerance and we need to be prepared to stand up to our less informed neighbors and friends and tell them the truth.

A vote for Bush is to send this country into ruin. America will not survive another 4 years of a Bush whitehouse.

The gloves are off and its time to speak the truth without fear of upsetting the sheeple.

is raising money (with matching funds from Soros) to run ads in the battleground states soon. Every little bit we do helps counter their propoganda.

3. They're using the speech where he lied about nukes?
In that SOTU, bush said Iraq tried to buy uranium in Africa. There was kind of a big DEAL about it! He thinks we are asleep.

Gee, that's nice--what about everything afterwards?

Doesn't sound like much of an advantage to me!

6. Does anybody know how many "terrorist" attacks there were in the
world between 911 and the Chimps Mission Accomplished statement?

I was thinking about that the other day, but couldn't really remember any. I'm sure there must have been some for Shrub to have declared war (on terrorism).

911, oh yeah that's why we went to Afghanistan, hunting down that Bin Laden character. Don't remember a Misson Accomplished brewha on that one...thought OBL was dead for a while there. Spent a lot of time looking for his body. Guess he turned up in Iraq alive and well. Sure don't hear too much of how we are doing in Afghanistan :eyes:

How many terrorist attacks in the world from the time we went into Afghanistan until Mission Accomplished flight suit deal?

War on terror, an undefined, unidentifiable enemy. How will we know when that war is over again? A 50, 60, 70% decrease in terrorist attacks?

8. The Democrats response campaign ad
Visualize a picture of Hitler/Goering/Bush.

Voiceover:

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people
along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

9. Ooh, Ohh, Center for American Progress has something to say about this!

Then:

"What I want to say to my Democratic friends in the Congress is they need to be very cautious not to seek political advantage ... Such commentary is thoroughly irresponsible and totally unworthy of national leaders in a time of war."

- Vice President Dick Cheney, 5/16/02

NOW:

"The Republican Party is responding this week with its first advertisement portraying Mr. Bush as fighting terrorism...By indirectly invoking the Sept. 11 attacks, the commercial plays to what White House officials have long contended is Mr. Bush's biggest political advantage: his initial handling of the aftermath of the attacks."

- NY Times, 11/21/03

12. There’s that image again….Saddam and 9/11
Even though the WH has admitted to no link and Perle has admitted to the illegality of the Iraqi War….people will still instinctively link the 9/11 ad to a current situation, i.e., Iraq. The image, I sense, will be that we can slap anyone in the context of 9/11. It kinda reminds me of a Three Stooges routine, where Moe slaps Larry, Larry slaps Curly and Curly can’t do anything…..The idiot-in-chief’s war on terror has evolved into a classic non sequitur….It’s really about hegemony with a terror sticker for appearances.
