Mary Cheney's book sells fewer than 6,000 copies since release
http://www.advocate.com/news_detail.asp?id=32039

Despite saturation media coverage when it was published a month ago, Mary Cheney's book Now It's My Turn has tanked at bookstores. Published by a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, the memoir has sold fewer than 6,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Bookscan.

The book's sales have declined in each of the four weeks since its release, to only 574 copies sold for the week ending June 3. That's 77% fewer than its first-week sales of 2,445.

At this rate, it will be virtually impossible for Simon & Schuster to recoup the reported $1 million advance it paid Cheney for the book, which describes her life as the gay daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney. (The Advocate)

Just how many gay Reublicans are there left that aren't pissed off?

I don't think there are many.

39. Who Wants to buy a book
Written by a hypocrite, who won't even stand up for gays to her own dad. She didn't speak out against them with all their gay hate amendments, and that I suspect to her gay friends, is an unforgivable sin.

I'll wait until I can find the book in a thrift store and buy it. Maybe it'll be a collector's item like her closeted mom's book "Sisters"

She really has no life! Especially as she was out. I wish Kerry hadn't mentioned her - especially as he seemed uncomfortable with doing it. The statement without it saying that was his belief - which it clearly was - was very well stated and nice.

and then she and him blamed Kerry completely for bringing up her gay status.

I'd trust Mary Cheney as much as a I would a snake. Sorry.snakes. She sold out the gays completely and still loves W. But then her sister has been appointed to a big paying government job.

Most republicans are trained to hate anything gay.
And most gays really don't want to hear the bellyaching of a poor little rich girl who's never going to have to worry about the same issues that most of us face.

Lackluster sales may prove a real setback in Mary's quest to become America's next literary giant.

Aside from sleeping during congressional meetings, and probably laughing at his haliburton/war machine profiterring, wtf is his purpose?

ah i remember the good old days when a vice president was actually a leading proud member of his team. Gore was vocal, behind Bill, strengthening their alliance. A real government.

this guy is like the emperor in star wars, frail, 6 heart bypasses later, old, evil, "Dubya, together we will RULE THe PLANET COME JOIN THE DARK SIDE"

btw im going hunting with cheney next week, any reccomendations? lol.

I wonder what democrat he accidentally ran into, in the forest...

84. Evergreen, I had similar thoughts
who, exactly, wants to read this book? I was fairly neutral on Ms. Cheney until I saw her on the talk show circuit. Her appearance on Larry King's show was particularly vile. She came across as mean, spoiled, and vindictive.
And, you're right. The homophobic right won't rush to embrace her. And she's alienated herself from the middle with her dishonesty. She claims that the Ohio gay-baiting for votes didn't exist, just people "voting for the best candidate." That's totally dishonest. She knows what happened there. And she's being a Quisling by not acknowledging the war her own party is waging against her and her partner.
Who admires this woman? Or feels she has anything to add of importance?
We never would have heard of Mary if it weren't for her father. She's done nothing except be what nature intended her to be, a lesbian, and accept handouts from her parent's well-connected friends.
You could go to any college or company in this country and meet at least 100 women more deserving of our time -- through their own accomplishments.
Mary Cheney? Might as well read Paris Hilton's biography.

is to hire some folks to pretend to be gay liberal activists -- dress them up in leather and dye their hair pink -- and then have them burn a big pile of Mary's books. Make sure Fox is there.

I initially went to check on info about Mary's book. Today, it's ranked 11,300 in books. List price is $25.00, but you can get new and used from $8.75.
All I can say is hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Edited to add:
Uh oh! Ann's book is number one on amazon.com. :puke:
At least Dixie Chicks are still number one! :applause: :bounce:

56. GOOD!
The time to speak up was before the election, when it could have other gay people like herself. She should have spoke up at the shame her mother showed for her with those phoney tears over Kerry's comments. She should have been far more vocal about the evil way her father's party treats people like herself. Now, when it only serves her self interests by making a few bucks, she speaks? To bad she doesn't suffer some of the finacial losses of her publisher.

69. I assumed the book wasn't the point. Bringing up anything "GAY" was.
I mean that I don't think Mary Cheney or her parents cared about how many books sold. They just wanted to bring "queer stuff" back into the public eye. It's all they have to run on in the fall. Gotta make sure you get those queer haters to the polls even if you have to have your gay daughter, and I'm sure she went along with it, write some worthless book about her experiences. She's had such a rough life you know. :sarcasm:

It was a stupid ploy I tell ya. Opening salvo of their dirty tricks campaign of 2006. And I'm sticking with that.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that this book has basically no audience.

I wonder if she will get "another" chance to write another book? Very doubtful.

I posted my review of 1 star on Amazon, and admitted that I didn't purchase the book.

Lo & behold, my review ended up on Freeperville by a post by Roger L. Simon.

I am relishing my "review", because it turned out right. Take that Freeperville, Roger Simon & Sunsong.

Mm Dinner With Mary

If you're going to drop names, drop big ones. Last night, our friend Tammy invited Sheryl and me to have dinner with Mary Cheney. She was in LA (fresh from a Larry King appearance) to promote her new book - Now It's my Turn: A Daughter's Chronicle of Political Life. Of course we were pleased at the invitation. How many times do you get a chance to meet the daughter of a sitting vice president, especially one at the center of controversy herself? Mary, as most of you undoubtedly know, is the first publicly out homosexual child of such a major executive official. Who wouldn't be curious?

With us for the occasion were producer/manager Douglas Urbanski (The Contender) and his wife television writer Diane Wilk. The venue was Maple Drive, the by now almost venerable restaurant in Bev Hills.

Well, since it was an evening with more film people than political types, I will "cut to the chase." Mary was a charming person, quite friendly, approachable and at ease with herself (more than I would ever be, I think, with a secret service cadre accompanying me everywhere I went). The predictable topics flitted by in the conversation - movies, Islam, gay marriage, what's Larry King like, the food at Maple Drive (still up to snuff), our kids' schools, etc. Mary chimed in with the rest of us but, like any author on tour, her mind was on her book, as it should be. (We will have a podcast interview with her on that subject on Pajamas Media shortly).

In all, I would have to say that Mary Cheney had what some of the Amazon "reviewers" of her book do not - common decency. Many of the reviews are excellent, but it is those ad hominem attacks that are really the subject of this post. And I have the "reviewers" in quotes, because I doubt most of them have read the book (it's barely out). In fact, some of them even admit that they haven't. Here's one "gentlewoman" who reviews under the handle of "smtpgirl": I saw Larry King, and after that diatribe, I will not read the book. The five-star raters are a bunch of SCHMUCKS. So far 37 of 43 readers of that vitriolic nonsense have branded it as "useful" (wonder why some people distrust the Internet?). Another "great intellect" named Drew Janson (at least he signs it) has this to say: "I thumbed through the book elsewhere...no way I'm giving my hard-earned $s to this self-loathing, opportunistic sellout...and must say it's one of the most tedious, boring, pointless wastes of paper ever. Then again, Mary's heroes...especially her precious father...never cared too much for preservation of the trees, anyway. For shame, Mary."

Well, you get the point. Indeed this is about common decency, civility. Without that, we can't begin to talk with each other. I'm buying Mary Cheney's book and I'm taking it on the plane with me to New York on Saturday. It was a pleasure to meet her.

80. A freeper complains about a lack of common decency?
That's rich.

"Indeed this is about common decency, civility. Without that, we can't begin to talk with each other."

I wonder if he said that before or after he read Coulter's book.

83. I can use her book.
I'm involved in exporting US products to other countries. I've got a buyer in India who's seriously looking for scrap paper.....to grind up and make new paper out of.

I'll take her entire inventory.

86. Well, if every log cabin repuke bought a book - that's about right
Does anyone think this book would actually appeal to the GBLT community or that mainly homophobic Cheney supporters would buy it.

There was never a market - whoever gave her the $1mil advance from Simon&Schuster should be fired

and hand them out at "meetings".. or maybe ole deadeye-dad will buy some to give out as christmas presents..

It almost seems to me that most publishing these days is "vanity-publishing". There sure are a lot of people getting books published...people whose views are worth little more than a pamphlet..

90. Well, who's going to buy it?
Not the GLBT community, which she has alienated, not the liberal community, which dislikes her for her hypocrisy, and certainly not the homosexual-hating repukes.

A losing gamble, writing that book.
