Iraq War Will Be Long and Costly, Admits Rumsfeld
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=AF01847A-BF68-4809-808AF63E7865D53F

<snip>
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has again acknowledged the war on terrorism will be long and costly. Mr. Rumsfeld says that, in Iraq, despite fresh attacks, coalition forces will ultimately succeed.
Mr. Rumsfeld spoke to Pentagon employees, military and civilian, on the same day anti-coalition insurgents in Iraq launched new rocket attacks in Baghdad, using donkey carts as launch vehicles.

The attacks caused extensive damage, but few casualties. The Defense Secretary said such incidents would not deter the U.S.-led coalition.

"These attacks will not deter the coalition from its mission," he said. "The coalition will stay the course - 34 countries strong now, and they will stand and work and succeed."

4. duh
That was my first thought. I think they just want to reinforce that military spending is going to increase while everything else suffers.

7. When LBJ was doing this sh*t with Vietnam it was the beginning of the end
I suspect that's the way it is for SmirkBoy. A one time appointed pResident who wreck not only Afghanistan and Iraq but the US too.

8. slick how they equate Iraq with the war on terror
Kudos to people like Clark who are disputing that, shame on VOA for treating that controversial idea as if it were fact.

On Letterman, Clark got a big laugh for calling it a bait and switch, and I suspect it was news to a lot of people when he said that al Qaeda and the Taliban were coming back in Afghanistan. I can't remember the last time I heard anything about Afghanistan mentioned on TV.

9. I can hardly keep up
but didn't they say we were going to turn over control to a new Iraqi government in June? Also, what are the 34 countries and what exactly are they contributing? "Oh, sure. Attack Iraq. You have our blessing." :eyes:

10. Yes, We should all believe Rumsfilled
when he says we will be in Iraq a long time.

But don't be fooled. Under that steely-eyed look, that swaggering confidence, Old Don's heart is beating fast. He's got perspiration building on his upper lip. He has sweat stains under his arms.

You see, Old Don is on a race against time. He's courting Lady Luck. And he's betting snake eyes he'll win.

So far, he's spent $140 billion on a war that is spiraling downward not weekly, but daily. The stakes are being raised higher and higher. Don is betting the farm that he can get the situation stabilised and the oil pumping so they can start recouping their investments.

They did a cost-benefit analysis, and the results showed that it's still profitable to get the oil, in spite of the losses.

However, if we run out of taxpayer money before the situation is stabilized, Rum-Filled just lost at the poker table and he needs to be escorted out.
