RIAA smells victory
SF Gate

A federal judge in San Francisco said Friday she is leaning toward a ruling that would give the recording industry a key victory in its quest to seek out and sue individuals who allegedly are illegally sharing music on the Internet.

The RIAA is using a provision of the federal Digital Millennium Copyright Act that allows it to issue a subpoena to force an ISP to reveal the name and address of a subscriber whom the RIAA is investigating for copyright violations.

1. Yeah, right.
Any ISP that forks over user information is economically doomed; their subscribers will simply go elsewhere.

Some kind of presumed anonymity a basic philosophy of the internet; "my right to look at women doin' it with donkeys".
