Dean bid showing strength in Massachusetts
Dean bid showing strength in Massachusetts

<snip>

The poll shows Dean getting 27 percent of the 400 likely Democratic primary voters, with Kerry receiving 24 percent. The two are far ahead of seven other candidates, with retired Army General Wesley K. Clark running a distant third with 6 percent.

<snip>

The Globe/WBZ survey echoes a University of Massachusetts poll taken early last week, in which Dean held a six-point lead among Bay State primary voters over Kerry. Dean was backed by 29 percent of the 400 Democrats and independents who were surveyed in the UMass poll, while Kerry got 23 percent.

The UMass survey also shows that Dean runs slightly stronger against President Bush, leading 58 percent to 34 percent. Kerry leads Bush by 56 percent to 38 percent.

<snip>

While Kerry runs ahead of Dean among registered Democrats -- 28 percent to 22 percent -- the senator trails by a wide margin -- 36 percent to 14 percent -- among independents, according to the Globe/WBZ polls.

1. Does a voter have to be registered dem
to vote in the primary there?

The Globe is no friend to Kerry but I can't see them doctering a poll. The indie # is most interesting.

2. Independents
Do you not understand -- as many other DUers either do not understand or do not want to acknowledge -- that Dean has been picking up Independent and even Republican support all along? As well as disaffected voters, new voters, etc., etc.

4. Yes I know
We have such an array of voters at our meetups which last month was 140 with 60 new people. Independents, greens, Libertarians, and yes Republicans....and boy are they pissed.

5. Game over for Kerry?
If Kerry can not beat Dean in Mass. it is game over for him. That is the benchmark. Lose your own state, and you might as well throw in the towel. These are early numbers still, but Kerry has to shore up his base at home.

6. I think Kerry's going to fight
to take the lead in MA. I don't think he can overcome Dean's lead in NH -- not impossible, but Dean has held a big lead there for several months.

I am curious to know who the second choice is of the Kerry people in MA -- would it be Clark? Edwards maybe? Dean?

8. I think MA is over for Kerry
It votes too late for it to be meaningful to him if
he loses New Hampshire.

BTW- the second choice is almost definately Dean,
from conversations with my Kerry friends at least.

7. Beantown is Deantown!
I'm a Deaniac from Newton, MA, and I can tell
you that everyone I know in Massachusetts loves
Howard Dean. Everytime he comes here, he draws
thousands of people to listen to him.

I'd like to see the Kerry people spin this!
