Edwards feels at home on Okla. campaign trail
Small-town crowds identify with senator's rural upbringing

IDABEL, Okla. - A couple of hours south of Tulsa, the Oklahoma plains give way to rolling hills and bayous of the region they call "Little Dixie."

People here trace their roots to Arkansas and Texas and have accents to match. They live in small towns; many work on farms. They catch their TV news from Dallas and Shreveport, La., and still consider cockfighting a favorite sport.

Here, North Carolina's U.S. Sen. John Edwards feels right at home.

"I grew up in the South, and in fact you and I talk very much alike," he tells more than 150 people who came out to see him in downtown Idabel.
