Christian Right Looks Toward Supreme Court Races (Alabama)
The debate and political fallout from the removal of the Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Judicial Building hasn't ended. Ousted Chief Justice Roy Moore is traveling the country making speeches. And the debate over public display of the Ten Commandments, and Moore's defiance of a federal court order to move the monument, could be a key issue in next year's races for three Supreme Court seats.

Mobile attorney and Republican activist Jim Zeigler -- who supported Moore's efforts to keep the monument in the courthouse rotunda -- says there are a number of conservative Christians active in the Ten Commandments movement who want to elect bold conservative Christians to Alabama offices.

Zeigler, a past candidate for the Supreme Court, says he's working to organize a slate of candidates to run in the Republican Primary in June for the three Supreme Court seats up for election.

The Supreme Court races are heating up because three of the nine seats will be up for election next year, and two of them will be open seats.

1. Hey, good for them Christians
soon they will have us all pledging allegiance to the ten commandments--and I mean
ALL of us--LOL ONly then will the will of the god be satisfied.

Now, if we are in any way, a thinking person, we can contemplate those ten commandments in our quiet times--and then laugh our heads off at the absurdities contained therein

2. Stupid idiots
I guess this is just the result of a failing educational system. Here in KY there are "I support the Ten Commandments" signs in people's yards since this debacle began.

The Judge Executive of Rowan County, KY tried to post the Ten Commandments too, but of course was overruled by the appellate court. He of course used the issue to get re-elected. Then you know what the SOB did, he took advantage of a little known loophole in KY law that allowed him to retire, receiving full pension benefits of $32,000 per year from this county of about 30,000, then he appointed his daughter to replace him, she ran the court for one month while he was on vacation, then she re-appointed him back to the bench. Here's the catch: he retained his pension. That's right, now he gets $32,000 in pension, plus $58,000 salary ANNUALLY(making $90,000). The Commandments guy.

His excuse for doing this: he's often sick and might die soon, and his grandkids need this money. I'm absolutely serious. The guy steals for his grandkids! Oh I forgot about that amendment to the Ten Commandments by modern Christians. Thou can steal for already priveleged kids.

Thanks for the vent.

4. So he's been called on this and NOTHING is being done?
He simply reasons it away? Did they at least close the loophole so someone else doesn't abuse it?

5. Get this (from the article):
"Talk of organizing a Christian slate of candidates (emphasis mine) to run for the three court positions began in August when the eight associate justices, including Brown, voted to obey Montgomery Federal Judge Myron Thompson's order and move the monument."

Don't you love the wording? As if the current members of the Alabama Supreme Court aren't Christians. (They all are, by the way) I guess the races will be all about who is a "good enough" Christian.

What a loony state I live in.

6. Amen.
It's my loony state too.

I'd be curious to know the percentage of non-xians within all elected offices in Alabama, or even across the entire South.

I'd be amazed if you could find just one (admitted) non-xian in any office.

7. Wasn't there a story the other day -
that said Moore is being courted to run for President by a minor party? (I forget which one.)

I hope he does. I'd send a contribution. The wingers would defect to him from Dubya in a heartbeat.
