NEW YORK--Congressman Joseph Crowley today endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D., citing his record on delivering results for America’s working families.

"I am thrilled today to be the first member of the House Democratic Leadership to endorse Howard Dean for America in 2004. Dr. Dean is the guy who stands up for the people—the hardworking men and women of our great country—to make sure that they are not forgotten, that they are not left in the dust. Crowley, who is a Democratic whip, has represented New York’s 7th District since 1998.

Crowley joins Reps. Neil Abercrombie, Bob Filner, Raúl Grijalva, Maurice Hinchey, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Zoe Lofgren, Jim McDermott, Jerrold Nadler, Major Owens, Frank Pallone, Tim Ryan, and David Wu, in addition to Vermont Senator Patrick J. Leahy, who have already endorsed Governor Dean.

Congresswoman Velázquez Endorses Dean for President

NEW YORK--During an event here today, Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez today endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

"Howard Dean does not answer to corporate America, big drug companies, the oil industry or Dick Cheney's Halliburton. He answers to hardworking American families across the country that struggle each day to pay the bills and make ends meet. Howard Dean leads with conviction. He leads with resolve and he will make it clear in his campaign that people come first," Velázquez said.

"I am proud that Nydia Velázquez, a true leader in her community, has joined the greatest grassroots campaign presidential politics has ever seen. Nydia’s unique perspective and her strong organizing skills will be of great benefit to our campaign,” Governor Dean said.

Velázquez, who was the first Puerto Rican woman elected to Congress, has represented New York’s 12th District since 1992, when she won with a strongly grassroots-based campaign. In February of 1998, she was named Ranking Democratic Member of the House Small Business Committee, making her the first Hispanic woman to serve as Chair or Ranking Member of a full House committee.

Her district, which encompasses parts of Brooklyn, Queens and the Lower East Side of Manhattan is the only tri-borough district in the New York City congressional delegation.

3. Wait a Minute... I Thought It's Only White Male 20-Somethings...

You mean to tell me that a female, Hispanic Congresswoman from New York endorsed Howard Dean?

And an African-American Congresswoman from Texas? And a Chinese-American Congressman? And a senior African-American Congressman from New York City?

But Fox News told me that Dean only appeals to 20-something liberal white male metrosexuals who own Apple Macintoshes or Linux-based PCs (and who know how to use them).

Jesse Jackson Jr. has announced he will be endorsing Howard Dean.

The Dean folks are very careful to put people on the list only when they've officially and formally announced their support.

In common terms everybody (except the campaign) says that JJJr has "endorsed," but that technicality is respected.

I think he was one of the first and googling indicates her's been on board for almost a month.

And David Wu voted for the prescription drugs bill. I'm just pointing out that those two aren't exactly the most liberal members of congress.
