Iraqi Teens Drag Bloodied U.S. Soldiers |
|
Iraqi teenagers dragged two bloodied U.S. soldiers from a wrecked vehicle and pummeled them with concrete blocks Sunday, witnesses said, describing the killings as a burst of savagery in a city once safe for Americans. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031124/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&cid=540&ncid=716

This type of attack on US soldiers is inexcusable and a clear violation of the rules of warfare under the Geneva Convention. The punk kids who did this should be captured and face trial. Having said that I will not fall into the trap that says because of attacks like these the appropriate response must be intensified carpet bombings and midnight raids, bashing people's doors down just to "teach 'em a lesson."

The US cannot claim shit when it comes to the Geneva Accords when we are the biggest violators, such as Guantanamo.
The "punk kids" are fighting for their country against a mostly white and Christian occupier. Think of them and their rage as being the same as the one experienced by people living in the Nazi-occupied countries of Europe.
If you care at all for our troops, you should be demanding an immediate US withdrawal from Iraq.

I guess everytime I post on the war in Iraq I have to reaffirm in writing that YES I opposed the war, still oppose it, and favor withdrawl. Is that what you wanted to hear? There, I said it. It's only in about a thousand other posts I have made on this board.
That was not the issue here. The issue was that just because these kids committed atrocities (which plucking somebody out of traffic and slitting their throats is), we should not respond as the Freepers do by calling for more bombing and repression. I think we all agree with that at DU.
The abrogation of rights at Camp X-Ray at Guantanamo Bay, which I dislike, is another issue entirery, and has nothing to do with this attack.
