Broken Bus Leaves Bill (Clinton) Out in the Cold
Imagine if this happened to *. Could he walk back to his hotel?

Agra - Embarrassed Indian authorities ordered an inquiry on Sunday after a special environmentally friendly bus broke down as it brought former American president Bill Clinton back from the Taj Mahal.

Clinton was returning from the 17th century monument Saturday on a battery-operated bus meant for dignitaries when the steering stalled and the driver slammed on the brakes, officials said.

As the driver failed repeatedly to restart the bus and Indian officials tried to find alternative transportation, Clinton and his Secret Service agents got off and returned to his hotel on foot.

"The police chief has been ordered to conduct the enquiry and submit a report," said Niteshwar Kumar, the administrator of the Taj Mahal city of Agra.

(snip)

Courts have banned the use of polluting vehicles near the marble Taj Mahal. Clinton himself highlighted the need to control air pollution when he visited the monument in March 2000 alongside his wife Hillary and daughter Chelsea during a state visit to India.

2. Can you picture Dubya walking on public streets anywhere?
Took the limo from the back door of Buckingham Palace to the front door. Total distance ... less than a hundred yards.

16. Can you imagine W respecting the pollution safeguard for the Taj Mahal?
After the debacle in England last week, there's no doubt they'd insist on taking a limo.

3. It seems to me when Bill went there in 2000, a HUGE stink was made ..
about how much it cost to do the trip re; extra security, support aircraft, etc. Why, oh Why does Shrubya get such a pass on this topic? WHY???? It infuriates me to think how much money the taxpayer is shelling out to move our pResident around. I remember that Clinton took 3 colors of shinola about traveling because of the expense involved and he seemed to be at the W/H most of the time! I doubt Bush has spent more than 5 consecutive days in the Whitehouse since he took office. Anyone?

6. Given that he left the country with a $500BB surplus, I guess
I had no problem with Clinton's traveling costs. But I doubt he took 700 people and 5 chefs with him on any official business, too.

Remember the outrage the Republicans had about the WH trashing? Remember how they wanted to have an investigation into the $7,000 worth of "repairs" required after 8 years of Clinton running the WH?

But we don't get to question anything about what this administration is doing in the looting of our treasury, the reckless budget (screwing us to the tune of $500BB/year) and destroying our international reputation.

This country is soooo screwed.

8. Only $7000 in repairs to the WH
after eight years? Jeez, my little home (built in 1925)has needed more than that in the seven years I've owned it!

10. $7000
That's probably about what it cost for Laura to remove the little family kitchen that Hilary put in and convert the space into a special storage unit for her frumpiest outfits.

Same thing at his inauguration. He could only walk a short distance--just enough for the photo ops--because the streets were lined with angry people who thought he'd stolen the office. Some were pelting him with tomatoes.

It's interesting to surmise the chimp will never be able to walk anywhere anytime. He will always be a prisoner after stealing the office and get us into this obscene war.

5. I added respect for President Clinton today after I heard he vetoed this
Edited on Mon Nov-24-03 01:01 AM by w4rma
1995 - The Private Securities Litigation Reform Act is passed over President Clinton's veto. The Act had bipartisan support in Congress. The purpose of the Act is to curb the "filing frivolous lawsuits based on a company''s announcement of bad news, rather than on evidence of fraud." Read more about the Act.

He was in a very tough position as President with a Republican Congress.

9. Yeah, it was the act that led to the ENRON and
Worldcom scandals. Basically allows CEOs and others to knowingly lie about profits. Clinton was spot on there-but the repugs had their way, and look at where it left us!

15. Heck, Clinton didn't have to worry about jobs going overseas...
...because HIS economy was producing millions of American-based jobs every year.

HIS economy was producing a budget surplus that no one knew how to handle.

HIS administration had developed friendly ties or negotiated agreements with just about every other country in the world.

HIS administration repeatedly warned the Junta that terrorism would be their #1 priority.

HIS administration still governed a true democracy with an elected head-of-state.

I could go on, but it's just too early.

17. And I'll bet President Clinton was good-natured about it, too.
Unlike the chimp, who would have thrown a good-sized temper tantrum.
