Unhappy Eid for Arabic Press
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3236104.stm

Muslims have begun celebrating Eid al-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. Some Arabic papers use the occasion for gloomy comment on the situation in the Muslim world. Others focus on current efforts towards peace in the Middle East.

This year's Eid comes at a time when the Muslim world is preoccupied by two great issues: Palestine and Iraq. Our Palestinian brothers are facing the dangerous aggressive escalation by the Israeli enemy... and under such conditions, the Eid is taking place without any happiness. In Iraq, our brothers are welcoming their first Eid under a foreign occupation which is accompanied by lawlessness, insecurity and widespread violence.

Eid is coming at a time when the Muslim nations and one of their most important pillars have been put under the hateful US and British occupation.

The Muslim nation is now living in a bitter reality: occupation in Iraq, which threatens sovereignty, security and does not bode well for ending this situation soon. Another occupation in Palestine lasting more than 55 years is leading to unimaginable suffering for the Palestinian people, and in Afghanistan the dreams of peace and stability have evaporated.

There is a battle on the issue of identity, where foreign efforts are directed towards erasing Islamic identity under the pretext of keeping pace with time and development, and some do not hesitate to interfere in the national affairs of Muslim countries. This also has coincided with an unjust campaign against Islam that was determined to accuse Muslims of terrorism.
