Military: No Evidence U.S. Troops' Bodies Mutilated
http://www.theneworleanschannel.com/news/2662738/detail.html

MOSUL, Iraq -- U.S. military officials now say there's no sign the bodies of the two Americans killed Sunday in northern Iraq were mutilated.

Military sources said there's no sign the men were beaten with rocks or that their throats slashed.
Witnesses had reported the soldiers were dragged from their car after gunmen shot them. Iraqis said a mob pummeled the bloodied soldiers with concrete blocks and a few accounts said the soldiers throats were slashed. But the military official said there's no evidence to back the claims.

The official said Iraqis robbed the car and stole personal effects from the soldiers' bodies. Iraqis had described a scene reminiscent of savagery against U.S. troops in Somalia a decade ago.

After the attacks, a truck driver said simply that the Americans "are occupiers, and this is their punishment" for empty promises. He said there's "no electricity, no gasoline and no work" in the area. And a gas station attendant said he'd have no choice but to seek revenge if an American came to his house and took him away in front of his children.
