Message from Candidate Kucinich about Miami

A message from Dennis Kucinich.

Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich today released the following statement :

"Reports have come out that the FBI is collecting data on people who attend peace demonstrations . Retired Gen. Tommy Franks recently said that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government. The Bush Administration is clearly not waiting for an attack to discard the First Amendment. This past weekend supporters of my campaign who were peacefully protesting the FTAA in Miami were attacked by police with tear gas as part of a security operation funded through the bill that poured another $87 billion into Iraq . Also this past weekend, supporters of my campaign who joined those protesting the School of the Americas in Georgia found their demonstration drowned out by loud music blasted at them by the military . The FBI's data collection is part of this pattern of restricting Americans' right to free speech.

"This kind of intimidation will undoubtedly have an effect on the opinions people give to survey takers asking about the occupation in Iraq. But, let me tell you this, I will continue to attend every peace rally possible, and I expect that I will see millions of Americans there standing proudly and openly against these fear tactics. The First Amendment protects controversial views, and nothing is more controversial than peace when your government wants war so badly it will lie and threaten to obtain it. The nonviolent movement for peace and an end to the Iraq occupation will only grow with every authoritarian abuse employed against it."

1. I'm impressed.
Seriously. Kucinich deserves to be applauded for being the only candidate standing up for First Amendment rights.

and thank heavens he is speaking up- while its still possible.

I hope the other candidates get behind him on this issue too...

Sometimes it takes just one brave man to get an entire army moving....

with your world view- this is your man. He may not be extreme enough for you but under this system, we won't get any better than Kucinich.

Peace

On edit- and it's not just hot air either with DK. No sealed records, no inconsistency with what he did before he ran for office and what he's saying now.

His list of endorsers has the most principled and internationally reknown-for-depth and principle people on it.

Peace

2. Edwards sent a letter yesterday to Hatch
calling for hearings into this exact same thing. Thumbs up to them both.

4. Go Dennis
How I wish more Dems in Congress would acknowledge what Kucinich expresses for so many of us. When I first realized that Rove and the cabal would use fear to control the people, I thought they would use fear of terrorist attacks to manipulate us. I now find it shocking to see it has really been about fear of our government itself.

was a Coup. I'm working on a new thread that outlines the very different police actions in concern with the Brooks brothers riot that stopped the count, as opposed to last weeks action. I'll probably post in GD when it's back online. Peace

6. gotta love Dennis

I love you Dennis keep up the good work, I would love to see not only you but ALL the other Democratic candidates speaking out AND protesting along with the rest of the peace loving people in this country. The Bush administration is obviously getting very paranoid when they have to collect information on people just because they disagree with them.

12. Bush* is the ONE who hates us for our freedoms!
When will the people in this country WAKE THE HELL UP? In less than 3 years he has almost destroyed this country. If he is re-selected AGAIN, we and the World, probably won't survive whatever the BFEE next has planned for us all.

13. You're absolutely right but...
...it isn't because of our "freedoms" that he hates us -- IT IS BECAUSE OF OUR POTENTIAL POWER TO OVERTHROW HIM AND EXPOSE HIS FAMILY AS THE TRAITORS THEY ARE!

GO DENNIS: :kick:
